Look, people are constantly debating when Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson should step away from Test cricket, but they are missing the bigger picture. When you've scored over thirty or forty Test hundreds, you don't just lose your ability overnight. Guys like Virat and Kane have earned the right to decide their own timelines.

In my career, I always believed that as long as you are waking up with the hunger to face 90mph bowling and your body is holding up, you keep playing. Test cricket needs its masters. If both retire at allmost same time, it won't just leave a massive hole in the Indian and New Zealand batting lineups-it will leave a massive void in the standard of the modern game itself.

Beyond the runs, you have to look at the commercial reality. Test cricket is fighting for its life against the shorter formats. Virat Kohli doesn't just bring runs; he brings hundreds of millions of eyeballs. He turns Test matches into prime-time events. Kane has that purist appeal that keeps traditional fans glued to
their screens. If you remove both of them from the equation, you are looking at a massive hit to global viewership and broadcasting revenue. The next generation needs to look at them and understand what true technical greatness looks like. Let them enjoy their cricket and leave on their own terms.

"When I was the head coach of England team across formats and we were having quite a success. We were winning alot, three Ashes in a row, T20 WC, number 1 Test team etc

I was traveling 250 nights away from my family, my wife and my three kids. One day my wife sat me down and said that it can't go like this and I need to make some sort of adjustments or things could take a turn for the worst. I think it was good of her of making me realise about my responsibilities. I talked it with ECB director and we appointed a white ball head coach Ashley Giles under my supervision and I continued with the Test team. And it never worked. Me and Ashley never gelled well.

In the temptation of holding onto the both things, the fame & success of being at the head of England cricket and being a family man a committed father, I ENDED UP LOSING BOTH. We lost the ashes 5-0, I resigned. I ended up leaving the home , there was a break up in the family and that was quite traumatic for my wife, my kids and myself. We still have to bear the scars of it.
