There’s something strange about this World Cup, but somehow everyone is pretending it looks normal.

France are fighting for their lives in the Round of 16.
Brazil already had a tough first knockout game.
England have a serious opponent in the Round of 16.
Portugal had a difficult group and now have Spain waiting.

Every big team has had to suffer somewhere.

Except one.

One team has somehow been given a clean road straight to the quarter-finals, and we’re meant to believe it’s just coincidence.

Cuando se publicó Fuego y Sangre en 2018, le preguntaron a George R. R. Martin cuál era su personaje favorito del libro. Su respuesta fue Daemon Targaryen, y la explicación que dio me parece una de las mejores definiciones del personaje que existen.

Martin explicó que siempre ha sentido una especial predilección por los personajes grises, y señaló que Daemon es uno de los más complejos de toda la historia de Westeros. Lo describió como uno de sus Targaryen favoritos, un personaje carismático, impredecible y profundamente contradictorio.

“Nunca sabes qué va a hacer ni de qué lado está”, afirmó el autor. “¿Hará algo espantoso? ¿Hará algo heroico? Hace ambas cosas a lo largo de la historia”. Personalmente, creo que esa es la razón por la que Daemon sigue generando tantos debates entre los fans. No es un héroe clásico ni un villano tradicional, es un personaje lleno de matices, capaz de inspirar admiración y rechazo a partes iguales. Y al final, son precisamente esos personajes tan humanos los que terminan dejando una huella más profunda.

Mbappe’s ability to shine in teams filled with superstars is actually insane.

If he can have Ronaldo and Messi’s longevity in the game, he’s going in those conversations. He’s already being held to their standards and expectations. Since the 20/21 season until 25/26, he has dropped five 40+ goal seasons with 21/22 being the only exception because he scored 39. I don’t think some people fully understand what we’re seeing right now. He delivers every single time across all competitions. He has just been unlucky in the Champions League unfortunately but he’ll definitely win a few of those in the future.

Our generation was lucky to witness Ronaldo and Messi, the younger generation after us will have Mbappe.

He’s the dictionary definition of a generational talent.
