The White House just released "President Trump is Finally Ending Canada's Free Ride."

While it's true that our economies are integrated, it is also true that Canada benefits from this relationship more than America. You can get as emotional as you want about that but it's true.

Access to the world's largest economy and MILITARY is a privilege that Canadian's have taken for granted. Like it or not, like the president or his methods or not - the truth is they obviously have the upper hand because Canada never did the ground work to make themselves a superpower (when they easily could have).

Liberal politicians and the elbows up crowd have been flippant about this. The emotional reactions, temper tantrums and personal slander against Trump did not lead to better diplomatic relationships. It didn't make you look stronger. It didn't make American's change their vote. It just made you look weak.

I'm not excusing Trump's behaviour. I'm saying we never rose to the occasion and our behaviour matched the childishness of the situation.

Meanwhile, Mark Carney ran on ONE promise. He was the guy to make a deal with America. He went on vacation, he ghosted the American administration for 8 months, he did Trump impersonations, this man does not want a deal with America and we're going to suffer for that.

But he's not worried of course - 91% of his investments are in America. He'll be just fine.

I wouldn't hate Canada so much if I didn't once love it.

We used to know we were America's quirky, harmless, mostly irrelevant cousin—our role to provide resources, natural beauty, confusing names for our coins, moose jokes, and pleasantries.

We had a good run with our surprisingly good (albeit odd) comedy history, our toques, our beer (eh), and our healthcare, but over the past decade, Canadians have become among the most propagandized—and thereby not just annoyingly sanctimonius, but dangerous—people in the world.

And not dangerous in a, like, "they'll shoot us dead" way, but in a "they'll drag us all into communism" way.

It is on account of Canadians' abiding trust of government, view of themselves as Most Good, and vulnerability to propaganda that it was so easy to stir them up into a tizzy over a fake threat in the form of President Trump, then elect the man installed by Justin Trudeau, Mark Carney, to stay the course.

That the mortifying “elbows up” crew—the same people who hid in their homes throughout Covid, terrified of a cold, reporting their neighbours for having grandma over for Christmas dinner—bought the Liberals’ story that Trump was coming for their “sovereignty” so swiftly should tell you all you need to know about their willingness to believe anything offered to them by the CBC and their Facebook algorithm.

Despite what Canadians believe, it’s not Trump who is responsible for this drawn out “war”—it’s their own government.

This "tough guy" charade is ridiculous. Canada can’t survive on its own, and is not operating from a power position. This is purely about the Liberal government's own political power and interests.

If Canada won’t work with America, it will have to find someone else take care of them. Who should that be? China?

Canadians’ jobs, businesses, and survival are at stake. Many are already struggling, and things seem as though they are about to get worse. Carney’s refusal to come to an agreement with Trump will only exacerbate the problems that already exist in Canada—both with regard to affordability as well as freedom.

Canadians need to put their egos aside and start operating in reality.

I very much doubt they will, which is why I keep complaining about it.

Here's why the world feels like its falling apart.

In 1895, a French psychologist named Gustave Le Bon mapped out how civilizations are built and how they fall apart.

He called it the lifecycle. Here's how it works:

Scattered people find a shared ideal.

Typically a religion, mission, or vision of order, and it pulls them together into something greater than themselves.

That ideal builds institutions, culture, law, economies, and art. The civilization rises, and for a while, it works.

Then the ideal fades across generations.

The shared purpose that held everything together quietly drains out, and what replaces it is barbaric self-interest.

People stop asking what they owe the whole and start asking what they can take from it. Duty gives way to entitlement.

The institutions remain standing, but they’re running on fumes — coasting on the reputation of a past they had no part in building.

That’s where it gets dangerous. Because from the outside, nothing looks broken.

The buildings still stand, the summits are still scheduled, and the flags still fly.

But the load-bearing structure underneath (the ideal that bound the whole thing together) has rotted out.

Over a century ago, Le Bon watched this pattern devour every civilization he studied. Read it today and it feels like a diary entry.
