Congratulations to the National Ballet of Japan @nntt_ballet on their wonderful opening night of Giselle @rbo_org. What a production; beautifully performed with technique and artistry.

CW: domestic violence. Poem from my recent collection Panic Response about my chemistry teacher, Avril Brown, who was very kind to me and who deserves to keep shining. (Been talking about her owing to the misogynistic killings in Bushey, which is where she taught me.)
Congratulations to the incredible corps de ballet for @ENBallet Swan Lake yesterday afternoon. I was on the front row (practically in the lake) and was struck by the skill and commitment of all the swans. So still in their holds! So together in their movements. Stunning.
The Acrobatic Swan Lake by the Xi’an Acrobatic Troupe is definitely more circus than ballet but some aspects are thrillingly impressive. I still can’t quite believe I’ve seen a woman balance in attitude en pointe on a man’s head. Incredible.
Loved the #ROHAshtonCelebrated triple bill last night. Yasmine Naghdi every inch the fairy queen in The Dream - a mini masterpiece! Sandwiched by two joyful pure dance pieces Les Rendezvous and Rhapsody. Dance heaven.
Miki Mizutani was a lovely, light and sparkling Aurora last night in @BRB Sleeping Beauty @Sadlers_Wells. A sumptuous production which kept the pace up nicely.
Farewell to Alexander Campbell @ACampbell_1 who gave his final performance with the Royal Ballet last night. A class act who leaves us with some wonderful memories. Wishing him all the best for the next chapter as Artistic Director of the Royal Academy of Dance @RADheadquarters
I've just seen among all the other bad news for the arts in Birmingham that the council is closing 25 out of 36 libraries - genuine cultural vandalism. Libraries are one of the few community resources left in the UK: they offer incalculable support and value.
A rather special #ENBGiselle last night from Katja Khaniukova and Francesco Gabriele Frola. Beautiful production and a touching connection on stage between the two leads.
Having been shoved out the way by some man at the bus stop this morning I’m very much in the mood for seeing a man danced to death this evening #ENBGiselle
I have written a piece in The Spectator @spectator Coffee House on what the #UkraineWar means for Russian #ballet, Sergei #Polunin and Valery #Gergiev - Read it here - https://t.co/hOjtIvcTZG
