Bengalore techie shoots wife dead on a busy road a week after she sent divorce notice

A 39-year-old woman was shot dead on a busy road in west Bengaluru on Tuesday evening, allegedly by her estranged husband, in a case rooted in prolonged marital discord and a pending separation.

According to the police, the couple had been living separately for about one-and-a-half years following frequent quarrels. The woman, who worked as an assistant manager at a public sector bank, had moved out of the matrimonial home with their two minor children and was pursuing legal separation, which the husband was reportedly unwilling to accept.

Investigators said the accused, a former software professional, had tracked her movements and waited for her near her residence as she returned from work between 6.30 pm and 7 pm. He allegedly fired multiple rounds at close range on a public road in the Rajajinagar Industrial Area, causing fatal injuries. The shooting triggered panic among commuters, and passers-by rushed the victim to a private hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

Police revealed that the accused suspected his wife of having an extramarital relationship, though this claim has not been substantiated. Tensions are said to have escalated further after he received a divorce notice about a week before the incident. Following the shooting, the man walked into a nearby police station, confessed to the crime, and surrendered along with the firearm.

The weapon has been seized, and police are verifying whether it was licensed. A case of murder has been registered, and further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events, motive, and source of the firearm. The incident has once again drawn attention to the deadly consequences of unresolved matrimonial disputes and stalking behaviour during separation.
