🌹 Grief Is a Thief — A Poem for Those Who Miss Someone This Season

Grief is a thief
that slips into the room
quiet at first,
then suddenly loud—
a memory, a scent,
a song you forgot you remembered.

It doesn’t care
if it’s been one day,
one year,
ten, fifteen,
or twenty.
Time may move forward,
but love never leaves,
so neither does the ache
that love once shaped.

And in this holiday season—
with twinkling lights
and empty chairs,
with laughter that lands softly
because someone’s voice
is missing—
we feel it all over again.

But grief is also a keeper.
It holds the stories,
the warmth,
the way they smiled,
the way they loved us
in a language
only our hearts can hear now.

So if you’re hurting tonight,
if the world feels heavy
when it’s supposed to feel bright—
know this:
you are not alone.
Your feelings are real,
your tears are honored,
your memories are sacred.

I love you all.
