This incident is a painful example of why I don’t trust friendship. Your enemies can get to you through your friends. Envy and hatred often come first from the people you call your friends.

The victim is Ibrahim Pilasar Mbaya. He was a graduate of UNIJOS, a chef, a model, and a contestant for Mr/Mrs Glam Nigeria 2026. He slept over at his friend's house. That morning, an iPhone 12 went missing. His friends accused him. They tortured him brutally. They rushed him to UNIJOS teaching hospital, but he died from his injuries.

Now, let’s think carefully. These were his friends, not strangers. Even if he stole the phone, it costs about 300k Naira. That is not worth killing someone over. Also, they never investigated him. Just because he slept there does not mean he took it. Someone else in that house could have taken it.

Worse still, reports say the phone was not actually stolen. One of the other friends took it to school, hoping to give it back there. So why didn't they call that friend to check? Why didn't they wait or follow due process? They were his friends. Why couldn't they be patient with him?

The answer is clear: envy and hatred. When you are doing better in life than your friends, they are often the first to turn against you.

This is why I always keep my distance from friends. This case has touched me deeply. Ibrahim was set up by the very people he trusted.

He was beaten to death yesterday by students in an off campus apartment behind the City of David in Ring Road area of Jos. .

IB passed the night in his friends place in Ring Road and the friend accused him of stealing his iPhone 16 in the morning.

He said since they were the only two in the room, he's the only suspect.
They subjected this young model to brutal torture, humiliating, disgracing and dehumanising him.

They later locked him up in a room and asked a nurse to check up on him. The Nurse confirmed him dead and they attempted to take him to JUTH Emergency unit to make the case look like an emergency when the police was called and they were arrested.

The beastly treatment they subjected this boy to is better imagined. Share this until the right thing is done. May Almighty God continue to expose perpetrators of dastard acts like this. Amen/ Ameen
