BREAKING: VICTORY IN THE FIGHT FOR FAIR MAPS IN BALTIMORE COUNTY: Judge orders the @BaltCoGov to draw a new district map with 2 majority-Black districts BY MARCH 8
Thank you to @ACLU_MD@NAACPBaltCounty, the plaintiffs, & all the voters across BaltCo who spoke out for fair maps!
"That summation error is there, indeed," Gimpel admits
Gimpel is @BaltCoGov's sole expert witness
👉🏽He is also a contributor to anti-migrant hate groups
👉🏽And was rejected by an Anne Arundel court as biased and partisan
#fairmaps#BaltCo
Amazing. This is the basis for James Gimpel's expertise with Baltimore County demographics.
"I live close to Baltimore County"
(Gimpel is the County's sole expert witness)
.@julianejonesjr was indignant about Inspector General Kelly Madigan's report yesterday which documented how he violated county policy by soliciting campaign contributions using his county email. https://t.co/JxCUGe2oxT 1/8
"First and foremost, we are accountable to the people who elected us - the voters," wrote Jones, who is running unopposed for reelection. https://t.co/JxCUGe2oxT 8/8
Jones also questioned whether, as a County Council member, he must adhere to the County's communication policy: "We are not subject to discipline in the same manner as other county employees.” https://t.co/JxCUGe2oxT 7/8
This report about ethical infractions allegedly committed by County Council chairman Julian Jones, who is running for re-election unopposed, is dated March 9 but is only surfacing now--*after* the deadline to file to run has passed.
Why is that? @tmacdeville any ideas?
Best news we've heard all week: Civil rights activist Tony Fugett, who with @ACLU_MD@NAACPBaltCounty exposed how the council violated the Voting Rights Act, is RUNNING FOR COUNTY COUNCIL!

2/ ➡️Plaintiffs’ legal team: “... The facts remain that the County has almost one-third Black voters and almost half Voters of Color, and yet six out of seven council districts will continue to have majority white voters. How can that be fair?..." @ACLU_MD@NAACPBaltCounty
3/ ➡️Dr. Lawrence Brown, Expert Witness on Baltimore County history: “It's my hope that this decision serves as a galvanizing moment to escalate the struggle for equity in outcomes. Even raising awareness of
BaltCo's long racist history can go a long way towards helping...
4/ ➡️... people to mobilize and make important demands, such as reparations from the county for inflicting tremendous damage on Black enclaves and Black residents, a stronger push for tackling ongoing residential racial segregation...
5/5 ➡️... and better data collection regarding how the county budget is allocated geographically, particularly dollars for community and economic development.” @BaltCofairmaps@ACLU_MD@NAACPBaltCounty @LWVBaltimoreCO @CommonCauseMD
This is such unfortunate, devastating news for the growing Black/African-American community in #BaltimoreCounty. The Council’s proposal shows an utter lack of respect for Black residents and Voters of Color overall. #BlackVotersMatter#Vote

@marylandmatters TY for reporting. Left out: the BaltCo claims were unsubstantiated, their expert witness failing to provide data and/or providing admittedly incorrect information. At least one claim is false/proves nothing: Cheryl Pasteur, elected to the School Board, ran essentially unopposed.
