Team 204 explored the story of Stellaluna as part of our science unit on ecosystems. We learned how Stellaluna was separated from her mother and grew up in a completely different habitat, raised by birds! Students made this fun bat puppet and sequenced the events of the story.
Mr. Parker’s class did sensory challenges to learn what it was like for Helen Keller's teacher, Anne Sullivan, to teach her new skills. They couldnt speak so they used hand signals, a code of tapping the other’s arm, or spelled into one another’s hand to communicate.
Mr. Banotai's 7th-grade math classes began evaluating algebraic expressions using hands-on manipulatives. Students used color-coded PVC pipes to build a polygon and then found the perimeter of their shape by writing an expression with variables to model the sides
BLS cherishes its newest teachers by providing a collaborative and substantive mentoring program designed to inspire creative, hands on learning for our students.
During her visit to BLS, Maryland's First Lady #YumiHogan generously invited our students to the State House in #Annapolis. This morning, students in Renaissance Club and American Revolution Club visited the State House and enjoyed making real world connections to their studies.
Today we celebrated the future #Classof2022 at our #8thGradeGraduation & #MiddleSchool Award Ceremony. The entire 8th Grade gave moving speeches about their Middle School experiences. Congratulations to our 8th Grade and all award recipients!

Our mentors celebrated a year-long collaboration with their mentees at today’s annual Mentor-Mentee Luncheon. Through a recent survey, 100% of our mentees shared that their mentorship had moderate to profound impact on their professional learning. Way to go, BLS!
Local stone carver, Eric Welkos, visited #RenaissanceClub today. Mr. Welkos taught students about the hardness of different stones, and how the tools used to carve stone today differ from the tools used during the Renaissance.
Wednesday afternoons are devoted to #professionaldevelopment at @BaltimoreLab! Our teachers recently participated in a collaborative professional learning session where they discussed how their work is directly connected to the school's #mission and beliefs.
