Colin Farrell stood as best man at his big brother Eamon's wedding to the man he loved - years before their own country would let that marriage happen on Irish soil.
The Hollywood star, who turns 50 today, has had Eamon's back since they were kids. As a boy he found a copy of Gay Times in his brother's room and sat the whole family down to gently break the news - only to learn they'd all known for years.
Because Ireland banned same-sex marriage, Eamon and his partner Steven Mannion had to fly to Canada to wed in 2009, with Colin beside them. When Ireland's marriage referendum came in 2015, Colin wrote a blazing public plea on his brother's behalf.
Fifty years in, and one of the most magnetic men in the movies has spent decades using that voice for the people who needed it. Happy birthday, Colin.
