Today @MEMD_Uganda in partnership with UNOC held a press conference to provide updates on the status of petroleum products supply, retail fuel prices, and key developments in Uganda’s oil and gas sector.
We reassure the public that Uganda continues to maintain stable fuel supplies despite ongoing global market disruptions affecting international petroleum supply chains.
@MEMD_Uganda further urged the public to avoid panic buying and disregard misleading information regarding fuel shortages.

Representing UNOC was Commercial Manager, Edith Tushabe Atuhurira, who shared insights from her experience in Uganda’s growing oil and gas sector.
UNOC & partner Vitol have diversified sourcing away from the Arabian Gulf — now securing petroleum from West Africa, Europe, India & the Americas to guarantee uninterrupted supply.
Uganda is expanding its Jinja Storage Terminal from 30M to 40M litres & has partnered with Lake Victoria Logistics (Mahathi Infra Terminal) — a 70M-litre facility — to bolster inland supply resilience.
A 320M-litre Kampala Storage Terminal at Namwabula, Mpigi District is in development — a key hub linking the Uganda Refinery to a national multi-products pipeline distribution network.
We are underway with the media briefing by the Permanent Secretary of @MEMD_Uganda , @irenebateebe on the fuel supply situation in the country. In her statement, she has reassured the public that fuel supplies remain stable despite Middle East conflict disruptions affecting global oil supply chains. No cause for alarm.
On the issue of rising pump prices. She noted that they are being driven by global supply constraints, freight costs, exchange rate shifts & increased cross-border demand from neighbouring countries buying Uganda’s relatively cheaper fuel.

UNOC’s EXCO participated in a high-level meeting where H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni met with renowned industrialist Aliko Dangote to discuss the proposed East African regional refinery initiative.
During the meeting, President Museveni emphasized that exporting crude oil without refining it would not make economic or strategic sense, as it would deny the country and the region the full benefits of the petroleum value chain.
Uganda expressed readiness to support the regional refinery initiative while continuing the development of the country’s own refinery project in Hoima.

Government officials conducted a joint visit to Busia and Malaba border posts to assess and improve fuel truck clearance. The visit followed recent Cabinet discussions on Uganda’s petroleum supply.
Led by the @CEO_UNOC and URA Customs leadership, the team reviewed key processes including customs clearance, fuel marking, and biofuel blending. Engagements with agencies and service providers identified bottlenecks and agreed actions to improve efficiency.
The interventions aim to speed up truck turnaround, ensure timely fuel delivery, and strengthen national supply and distribution.

UNOC is hosting a delegation from Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) in Hoima, strengthening regional collaboration in East Africa’s oil and gas sector.
The delegation has toured key sites including the Kingfisher development area and critical EACOP infrastructure such as pump stations and Kabalega Industrial Park, gaining firsthand insight into the scale and progress of Uganda’s petroleum sector.
