🧑🏫 Les classes s'han acabat / Classes are over.
And with the end of term, comes a reflection on the creative sessions that (I believe) were enjoyed most by my students: “El Guernica de Picasso”, “Grafitis en Bangor” & Languages for All "Frida Kahlo Gallery". ¡Buen trabajo! 🎨
I’ve seen languages open doors, build trust and create moments of genuine human connection that no algorithm could fully understand. Of course, AI has its place, but professional linguists still matter because meaning is human, context is human, and responsibility is human too.
Ruben Chapela and Nathalie Thomas recently participated in a fantastic and fun event organised by our friends at Sefydliad Confucius Bangor Confucius Institute as part of their free lunchtime workshop series 'Discover Chinese Culture'.

He has a reputation for telling jokes of 'variable' quality in class but our senior lecturer in French Dr. Jonathan Ervine actually does research on humour. Here he is being interviewed about this topic in Paris last month as part of a project about humour and wellbeing.
Dr. Jonathan Lewis of our French section has co-authored an article about "the emergence and potential of the blue humanities as a framework for rethinking relations between culture, language, and territory across French and francophone contexts"

LOS GRAFITIS. Following our yearly “El Guernica de Picasso” and “Grafitis en Bangor” sessions for first and second year students respectively, the student “display gallery” in room 429 (Main Arts Building, 3rd floor) has been updated. Come and have a look! Dewch i weld! 🎨
Well done to our subject lead for Modern Languages, Sarah Pogoda, who has been nominated in the 'Inclusivity Champion' category of this year's Student Led Teaching Awards!
Da iawn i'n Pennaeth Ieithoedd Modern, Sarah Pogoda, am gael enwebiad yn y categori 'Eiriolwr Cynhwysiant' o'r Gwobrau Dysgu Dan Arweiniad Myfyrwyr eleni!
Mae'r campws yn edrych yn grêt, ag rydym yn edrych ymlaen at groesawu ymwelwyr i ddiwrnod ymgeiswyr ar ddydd Sul! / The campus is looking great, and we're looking forward to welcoming visitors to this Sunday's applicant day!
🌟Roedd hi'n bleser rhannu effaith Prosiect Ieithoedd Rhyngwladol, a ariennir gan @LlywodraethCym, gyda Bwrdd Cymunedol @prifysgolbangor.
🌟It was a pleasure to share the impact of the @WelshGovernment-funded International Languages Project with @BangorUni Community Board.
FRIDA. Spanish students from our Languages for All evening provision had an interesting experience trying to spot Frida Kahlo’s paintings by identifying some of their key elements. Buen trabajo!🎨
Beth yw eich hoff waith gan Frida? What’s your favourite artwork by Frida?
Languages don’t just help you speak - they help you understand. They sharpen how you think, deepen your empathy, and open doors across every field and culture. English can take you far, but meeting people in their own language is what truly connects you to their hearts and minds.
There are some fantastic films in @sinemapontio this weekend as part of the WOW Festival. Our very own Dr. Armelle Blin-Rolland will be introducing Saturday's screening of The Shepherd and the Bear.
