This is a big deal. After conducting preliminary investigations, OECD watchdogs in the UK and Switzerland have accepted complaints against Barclays, HSBC, and UBS for investments in private prison giants CoreCivic and GEO Group as Trump expands immigration detention.

We remain unbowed. We proceeded to hold a protest where we had convened and shared our message with some of the media outlets that had gathered to join us on the streets of Nairobi. #FreeTheKCB11#StopEACOP!
Tens of thousands of people have already been displaced to make way for the controversial pipeline, facing loss of livelihoods, inadequate compensation, and worsening socio-economic conditions. @kcbbankug, you're betraying the communities you claim to care about. #StopEACOP
URGENT: 11 climate activists face criminal charges after KCB Bank deceptively led them into the basement, where police waited. They were peacefully delivering concerns about #EACOP, which threatens the Ramsar sites. #FreeTheKCB11#StopEACOP@stopEACOP
FACT: Over 40 major banks have refused to finance #EACOP due to environmental and human rights concerns. Yet KCB is all in— and aiding in ARRESTING those who speak up. #FreeTheKCB11#StopEACOP@KCBGroup@KCBUganda
@KCBGroup through @KCBUganda is among five banks that the #EACOP company announced as having provided funding have marked themselves as enablers of #ClimateChaos, environmental destruction and continued exploitation of Ugandan and Tanzanian resources for the benefit of TNCs.
KCB Bank Uganda lured 11 peaceful #StopEACOP activists into their basement where they were ambushed and arrested on false charges. Their crime? Attempting to deliver a letter about the bank's involvement in the destructive #EACOP pipeline. #StopEACOP@KCBGroup@kcbbankug
It's curious that over 40 major banks have refused to finance #EACOP due to environmental and human rights concerns. Yet @KCBGroup is all in—and aiding in ARRESTING those who speak up. #FreeTheKCB11#StopEACOP https://t.co/gF8Ru6pani
.@kcbbankug has marked itself as an enabler of climate chaos, environmental destruction & the continued exploitation of Uganda & Tanzania’s natural resources for the benefit of @TotalEnergies at the expense of local communities by choosing to invest in #EACOP#FreeKCB11
🚨We're having an X(Twitter) storm today from 12pm EAT to raise awareness about the decision by @KCBGroup to get involved in the controversial #EACOP project — and their role in aiding the ARREST of the 11 #StopEACOP activists who speak up against the project. #FreeTheKCB11
KCB Bank finances #EACOP pipeline = 100,000+ people displaced, vital ecosystems destroyed. When activists brought a letter voicing concerns, KCB's response? Deception and arrest. RT to demand #FreeTheKCB11 and #StopEACOP@KCBGroup@kcbbankug@NSSF_ke
"It would be a betrayal of trust and the strong historical ties between the government of Oman and the people of Uganda and the region if Omani financial institutions were to support this controversial project," #StopEACOP! https://t.co/eiAguSjl5y via @allafrica
.@stanbicug, you’re funding a project that threatens Uganda’s water sources, biodiversity & the livelihoods of millions. Even major banks have refused to touch #EACOP- why are you still involved? #StopEACOP#StanbicDivest
We condemn these unnecessary and violent arrests of activists, students and anyone who dares to question this controversial project. We also condemn @stanbicug for choosing profits over people, the climate and the environment.
🛑Over 50 community-based & civil society organisations from Uganda 🇺🇬, Tanzania 🇹🇿 & the DRC 🇨🇩 have reacted to news of EACOP financing.
🛢️Calling the financing a shame, they demand that other financial institutions desist from funding the project.

A terrible decision from these five banks. But also, while EACOP sells this as "big news", the amount secured is undisclosed, likely to be a small part of what is needed, and project is still not fully financed.
Big news for EACOP!
#EACOP Ltd. secures first financing tranche for the crude oil pipeline project. Progress is well underway!
