According to The New York Times, Turkey is increasingly helping Ukraine expand its influence in the Middle East and has strengthened its position in Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad — a region where Russia's influence has notably declined.
Ankara is no longer making much effort to appear balanced between Russia and NATO.
Moscow may have helped create this situation itself. As Putin remains focused on the war in Ukraine and failed to protect one of his key regional allies, Turkey — a long-time supplier of Bayraktar drones to Kyiv — has moved to fill the vacuum and establish itself as a major regional power.
