For Amish kids, school ends at 14. Then you go to work.

A young Amish man from Minnesota told Theo Von how it works. No high school. Done by eighth grade. Dating starts around 16 and a half, sometimes later depending on the parents. You meet at sing-ins after church or weekend gatherings.

Theo joked that high school is mostly doing drugs and trying not to die of driving while intoxicated. The Amish guy replied that never happens for them. The horse just takes you home.

Most of modern adolescence is missing from this picture. No dances. No phones shaping the first crush. Just work, community, and low-key ways to figure each other out.

I’ve been thinking about how much of the noise we treat as normal is actually optional. Their version looks slower. It also looks clearer.

Sometimes the simpler path still produces the same human stuff. Attraction. Connection. Just without all the extra layers. With all the technology racing forward, maybe the real innovators will be the ones who figure out how to return to nature and simplicity.
