I believe this woman fully deserves the title of hero for ridding the world of harm to cats—it's no less epic than Jing Ke's assassination of the Qin Emperor—because Jack La Tiao was utterly cruel, subjecting all sorts of innocent cats to a series of utterly terrifying tortures, brutal killings, and then filming videos to post online for showboating and bragging. Where did this demon come from, and who created such a monster?
I don't deny that some people are inherently evil—human nature has its beauty, but just as much darkness—but Chinese law has no provision for animal cruelty, so Jack La Tiao was only detained briefly before being released, allowing him to keep tormenting cats.
Once a person gains some unchecked power, they run wild. Jack La Tiao, to a certain extent, held the power of life and death over cats, with no external constraints or deterrent punishments. At its core, he's not much different from an autocrat wielding unchecked public authority.
Jack La Tiao is like the Qin Emperor monopolizing state power; the Qin Emperor is like Jack La Tiao gaining the power of life and death over cats—their brutality runs in the same vein.
If a person is that cruel, devoid of humanity (and even animal nature doesn't deserve it—you ever see a executioner that sadistic in the animal kingdom?), persecuting countless lives, there will absolutely be people who want to take his life, whether it's from cat lovers or from those driven by humanity's eternal, unchanging sense of justice.
Facing dictators who hold the power of life and death over millions or even billions, history gave us Jing Ke's attempt on the Qin Emperor; in modern times, there were Huang Wenxiong and Zheng Zicai's failed assassination of Chiang Ching-kuo. After Chiang survived two attempts, it at least somewhat influenced him to proactively change policies, paving the way for Taiwan's future as a democratic nation. Today's dictators have tight security, but online, you always hear rumors of their deaths—it's the people suffering under their rule who desperately wish them gone. As for what happens after they die, we'll talk about that once they're dead.
Facing Jack La Tiaos who torture and kill cats, people will protest; if protests fail, they'll resort to ending their lives. Plenty of folks look down on animal protection laws and anti-cruelty statutes, but in a way, protecting animals is also about protecting people. A chunk of criminals who end up on the path to murder started with abusing animals as kids. During the Rwandan genocide, Tutsis were declared non-human—cockroaches, snakes. In certain backward, barbaric mindsets, humans can't be killed at will, but once you dehumanize them to the level of animals, you can slaughter them freely. Conversely, if animals aren't abused at will, then humans are a lot safer.
In a country where animals aren't abused, humans are even less likely to be."

Wang Wang’s story became a point of no return for me. It revealed the terrifying truth about how defenseless animals remain in China—and how far human cruelty can go when people know they will face no real punishment for their actions.

A tiny dog and her puppies were killed with a level of deliberate cruelty that can neither be understood nor justified. But even more horrifying are the words: “It was only a dog.” As if her life meant nothing. As if she could not feel pain or fear. As if she were not a mother who stayed beside her babies until the very end.

Wang Wang has become a symbol of all the animals whose suffering is hidden, dismissed, or left unpunished. Her story showed the world that this was not an isolated tragedy, but part of a much greater problem that can no longer be ignored.

Today, hundreds of thousands of people in different countries are demanding justice. They are joining protests, signing petitions, sharing the stories of animals who have been killed, and calling on China to enact a real law against animal cruelty.

I desperately want to believe that our voices will be heard, but hope is fading. In a country where every major decision depends on those in power, only the government can stop this cruelty and introduce meaningful punishment. Whispering is no longer enough—we must cry out so loudly that the world finally hears us and can no longer turn away.
