@capabilitycharl Himalayan Balsam (although I think it is now called Indian Balsam) is pretty but it completely dies back in the winter, and where it grows on riverbanks, it can lead to faster erosion of the banks due to a poor root system

@capabilitycharl I don't think they are saying all gardens should provide food, I think they're asking what's the point of spending time/money on a nice looking garden (or art, buildings, traditions etc.) when we're currently heading towards a climate/environment where food won't be able to grow

@_JoelAshton Just FYI 'disturbance' is only illegal for Schedule 1 species (Barn Owl etc.). In the case of all nesting birds, including House Sparrow, it is illegal to take, damage or destroy a nest. If this is the case the Wildlife Crime Officer should be informed.
