Republicans will be real mad if they close down the Department of Education. This agency is nothing more than an oversight and funding agency. The idea that Republicans use states rights as justification for eliminating it is nothing more than a cover for their racism. If they succeed in their efforts, they will come for Brown vs Board of Education next.
The federal government does not mandate curriculum as that is the states job already. Most funding for education already comes from the state level. However the funding they do provide is quite critical to millions and the majority of that funding is for rural Republican areas....oopsie
Title I funds is often thought to go large urban area schools, while in fact it actually goes to red rural states because red states provide so much less in funding for schools than Blue states. It is why teachers in red states make about half of what teachers in blue states get paid.
Project 2025 wants to eliminate Title I completely and that would devastate the schools for those who voted for Trump. Many, if not all of these states cannot afford to raise their school budgets because they simply have limited income to work with. It is why Blue States pay the bills of Red States and I don't see these states getting too excited to raise their taxes to pay for schools.
A lot of Title I money goes towards special education as does a lot of the oversight. These student fall under IDEA which guarantees these students an equal access to a Free and Appropriate Education (FAPE).
The Department of Education ensures that every student has the right to the same quality of education without any district violating those rights based on race, gender, religion and more. They provide funding to schools in need and most of them happen to be in Red States. They are not the boogeyman Republicans make them out to be and if Republicans succeed in eliminating it, then it will be detrimental to the very people who put them in power. Sucks to be them
1) IMPORTANT THREAD: On Nov 9, 2020 AFTER Trump lost he fired Esper and installed Chris Miller 'Acting Sec of Defense' and Kash Patel. In DC the only people who can deploy the National Guard are POTUS and Sec of Defense. These are the 14 times Miller denied the National Guard
The same jackasses who want to give trump a pass for his mountain of FELONY crimes (with mountains of evidence) don't want President Biden to pardon his own son for crimes that, if his name wasn't Biden, he'd just pay a fine.
Fuck that noise, Joe.
Pardon Hunter Biden.
I just wanted to say thank you @KamalaHarris. You ran a wonderful campaign. A hell of a campaign. You appealed to our better angels. You had only 107 days to give it your all. And you did. Thank you for stepping up and trying to bring this country together. You did really well.
LIKE IT OR NOT: The stock market’s hitting record highs, inflation is cooling, food prices are dropping, gas is more affordable, crime is trending down, and prescription drug costs are finally seeing cuts.
All of this didn’t just happen by accident—it’s a direct result of the Biden-Harris administration’s policies.
Facts over feelings.
Do we have a messaging problem, or do we have a “Republicans lied to people so consistently for so long about the root of their discontent that they now live in a damn near impenetrable bubble” problem?
The $7.25 an hour federal minimum wage hasn’t been raised since 2009.
The $2.13 an hour tipped minimum wage hasn’t been raised since 1991.
Employers have paid workers with disabilities pennies an hour since 1938.
Republicans & corporate dems opposed bills to raise these wages.
Republicans want to eliminate government agencies, not because they aren't needed but because they want to privatize their functions. That way they and their cronies can create businesses to do the identical functions for astronomical prices and profits that go to them.
GM just announced 1,000 more layoffs—in August it cut 1,500 jobs.
GM claims it has to "cut costs."
GM is on track to make record profits this year. Its CEO made $27.8 million.
In June, GM announced $6 BILLION in stock buybacks.
Corporations don't deserve more tax breaks.
@Ericrse37986@vanillaopinions Yes. Blue states enact a lot of good policies for children and climate. Colorado has a great safety net, universal pre-K, free school lunch, incentives for electric vehicles including e-bikes, and is a great and beautiful place to live! Housing is EXPENSIVE, sadly.
Should everyone in America just accept that this was it? How can any patriot accept that Elon Musk is in charge of America? He's threatening Republicans if they dont do what he wants. He's threatening Americas allies if they dont do what he wants. Who voted for Elon Musk????
No more gender reassignment at schools, no more border invasions, no more gangs taking over cities. The media is awfully quiet on these miraculous events.
It's almost like they were helping spread propaganda. 🤔🤔
Remember who Trump’s targets are and, given pressure like this, that it is not just talk:
President-elect Donald Trump urged Republicans to nix a bipartisan bill that would give journalists greater protections under federal law.
Trump wrote on his favorite social network that "REPUBLICANS MUST KILL THIS BILL!"
Known as the PRESS Act, the Protect Reporters From Exploitative State Spying Act would prevent the government from forcing journalists to reveal their sources and limit the seizure of their data without their knowledge.
“They’ll try to figure out where the path of least resistance is: Who can they hurt the most, the fastest, without having to actually go through Congress.”
