It’s kind of a shame we are at the end of the semester. It has been a great and odd semester for both classes and the world. I wonder what stories will be birthed from these current event. Thank you Thomas for the wonderful class even if it had to go online. #F470

It’s interesting the things people believe in. Like I under ghosts and spirits or even things like moth man or Bigfoot, the “gag” stories (if you want to call them that). But Slenderman? Like do people believe in Stephen Kings “it” too? Probably. #F470

I hope Slenderman lasts forever and possiblely resurfaces at some point in the near future. It’s be cool to compare the old reactions to new reactions. #F470

I really enjoy creepy pastas. They were pretty much the start for me into the creepy and weird horror genre. Things like Slenderman and Smile dog will probably stick with me forever. It’s cool to be at the start of a piece of folklore. #F470

Another good story of Slenderman was Halloween night my friend and I were in my backyard talking about him and out of nowhere a palm tree leaf (I have palm trees in my backyard) fell from the tree and that was enough for both of us to flip out and run inside. Great times. #F470

Remember the old days of the creepy thin boy Slenderman. My friends and I would always talk about him. One night we talked about him it was like 3 a.m. and my friend was so scared he turned on all of his lights and got in trouble for leaving them on all night. #F470

Bloody Mary is still one of the creeper stories. I remember my friends told me to go into the restroom and say her name 3 times and after the second time there was just that part of me that wouldn’t so I never actually said her name all 3 times. Still creepy. #F470

I haven’t heard the story about the killer and the babysitter or at least that version. I have though heard the version where the killer would turn on the washing machine in the basement and wait for the girl, but would turn it off and she would go back upstairs. #F470

I read those stories pretty late last night and even though I know they aren’t real I still couldn’t get myself to watch the YouTube movie. There’s just something about that small chance they are real. #F470

I really appreciate the bold and prideful messages shared in American Tall Tales. I wish they would be told more more often/I heard more of them as a kid. #F470

As I read these stories I feel that they have a different energy to them as the past books we have read. I’m not sure how to put it exactly, but I guess that’s the point with them written by different types of people. (You can hear the accent). #F470

I like that I am finally hear the stories of these people like Davy Crockett or Jonny Appleseed. As a kid I always have heard of them or they were referenced, but never heard their stories (or at least don’t remember them). #F470

Mom Bett and the little ones A-glowing was a very interesting story to read and had a much different feel to most of the other stories. It’s nice to see a story still have its oddities, but not really be a story. More so a wholesome message. #F470

If you take Moana for example she is oppressed like the girls in these stories. These stories we read very much force these girls to fall in line with no to little resistance and I don’t understand why a story would be told this way? Maybe it’s just for the time period. #F470

Why do similar events play out on stories like these. The young girl is tricked. The older woman is deceived and the girl that loves the fish, loves a fish. Is it culture or media that puts woman in these roles? #F470

What is up with these animal tales? They all seem so pointless and quick to end. Is there some deeper meaning I’m not getting? Or are they just simply odd stories? #F470

@josephsdsu I’m just saying it’s a lot different than what we have been discussing and I’m unsure if I like religious folklore. I’m assuming that’s what it is with the creation of the world by their God. (It’s a turn of pace I wasn’t expecting).

I read “How God Made the Butterflies” and thought “isn’t folklore suppose to take on a dark and ugly side.” This took a very different path and I’m unsure if I like it. #F470

@josephsdsu Everything we have read/discussed in class has been dark. May that be death, or self discovery usually with “private parts,” or even “gross” stuff. This book and that piece are very much the opposite, with it being flowers and butterflies. I’m not saying folklore can’t be...
