Just before a long car journey, recently, I grabbed some random CDs to keep me company and ended up listening to Damien Rice's 'O' for 4 hours. I'd forgotten how blisteringly brilliant it is ... and yet I could remember EVERY SINGLE WORD.
Great news! The novel is not “absolutely doomed”. Fabulous evening on Wednesday with Professor John Mullan challenging Will Self’s assertion. We loved John’s argument plus his quiz on Jane Austen’s Emma. He reminded us what a super book that is!
