Or…and hear me out: we can do both.
We can be mad about multiple cultural holidays being washed over while also being upset at our labor being exploited during one of the hardest years to teach
Unpopular opinion: teachers griping about having to teach on Dec 23, two days before the actual holiday being celebrated, are privileged and have no idea or calibration of what it's like to be a minority who doesn't even have their holidays represented on a school calendar
So every parent had the option in WCPSS to be virtual. Literally avoid the whole mask debacle if you don’t want to wear it.
So at this point these “activists” are idiots.
Conservative activists upset after NC principal won’t exempt kindergartner from mask rule. Parent taped phone call of Powell Elementary principal saying he needed to see child’s medical records & talk to her pediatrician. #wcpss#nced#coronavirus#ncpol

If CRT really discouraged you from education then please by all means leave. You should’ve never came here to begin with. This is a sacred position and you shouldn’t tarnish it with a fixed mindset
"After 6 years as a teacher in CT, I decided to resign from what I thought would be my forever career bc I felt more like a political activist than a teacher in my own classroom."
Jen Tafuto exposes the the indoctrination and woke ideologies, like CRT, being forced on children.
I’ll say this: if you love ALL children then you see the mess that SOME go through just because of their skin color. When you choose to take this stance you ignore those children.
I will not stand for that.
I see the effects of teaching obedience without equally addressing when it’s necessary to disobey. I also know the complications of teaching it to my Black children. Still, I do not want to raise cogs in a machine. I just can’t.
I want to raise children who know when to disobey adults. I don’t want them to go along with mistreatment because “that’s the policy.” I’d rather them call me into the office so I can defend my child and then withdraw them.
Maybe that’s privilege. IDK, but it is what it is.
@DrChaeEd This is also something that can put children in danger. If they equate respect with compliance then they are less likely to trust their own instincts when adults make then uncomfortable
You have to think about what you believe (dis)respect to be. You have to think about what you believe a child’s rights are. You have to think about what you believe an adult’s role is. You have to challenge your preconceptions & logic used to engage every day.
I think the biggest thing a lot of adults get wrong about positive discipline/positive parenting/conscious parenting is trying to fit those philosophies into their pre-existing schema/thoughts.
It doesn’t work that way. You must challenge most of what you believe. Dig deep.
A lot of parents very rarely even think of children as whole human beings with their own sets of emotions, feelings, thoughts, wants and needs
It's always you do what I say when I say it & thinking hitting or shouting is appropriate but wouldn't tolerate the same as adults
@DrChaeEd So when I interact with children in my life - that I am teaching, mentoring, nieces & nephews, I use the same philosophy, and luckily my circles agree. As an adult it’s MY job to discern when a kid is genuinely learning vs. being a jerk to delay bed time. It takes patience.
@DrChaeEd My parents raised us that we could question everything. Why they wanted us to do things, why they wanted us to do them a certain way, and if they said “just do what I say” it’s because we are in danger or something similar. We had agency. I’m realizing JUST how rare that is.
@Karri_H1982@NC_Governor There’s always been Juneteenth celebrations. This is just the first year that people who are not Black Americans heard about it. Because I’ve heard of it my whole life, living here in NC and in my 30s as well
NC House unanimously passes bill that would waive the $50 fee that teachers pay for a substitute to cover their classes when they take a personal day. Teachers would have to give a reason or face paying an even higher amount for a sub. #nced#ncpol#ncga https://t.co/xPDAjOi0kK
@mrs_k_willia@meagen33659960@NC_Governor Best mask analogy: with everyone in pants, a person who is peeing won’t get you soaking wet, but you might have some splashes. If you’re further apart your chance of getting wet is decreased. Pants=mask. Getting wet=sick
Greeting others when greeted is a very important social skill we teach to children and yet so many adults lose this skill...ahh to be in preschool again
