“Sister Debbie, how do I know who to marry?”
I can’t tell you the number of times I get this message
I want to share something with you and it may get a bit gory so please brace yourself
I got pregnant immediately after our wedding and when I was 6 months pregnant, my water broke prematurely and I had to be admitted.
You know this story already.
What you don’t know is the behind the scenes
It was not funny. I was leaking amniotic fluid day in and day out. At times it was dripping at times it was gushing.
My husband and I were the only ones facing something we both have never faced. Our marriage was just 6 months old.
Because of the severity of what was happening, we had to be super careful and manage my movements so the water does not leak too much and so that the amniotic fluid is still enough to carry my baby till at least 35 weeks
I looked so horrible because I couldn’t bathe for days at a time.
If you saw my hair? You would just run. Because I couldn’t afford any movement so grooming was a luxury I could not afford.
There were times out of nowhere I would just start bleeding
There were times I could not do “number two”. Because apparently being stationary does not allow you have good bowel movements.
One day it got so bad I thought I would die. My husband was in the toilet with me as I was trying to do this and it was not working. This man was ready to help bring this thing out if possible.
I told you it was gory.
Yet there was not day my husband did not look at me like was the prettiest woman in the world.
Every he had to still work.
He would cook and bring to the hospital every single day, go to work, cook and bring again, and sleep on the hard chair beside my bed
We did this for 3 months.
Now let me answer this question:
Marry someone that can do hard things with you and for you.
Marry someone that thinks you’re beautiful even when your hair is not combed and your mouth is not brushed yet.
Marry someone that when hard times show up, they roll up their sleeeves and say “what can I do”?
Life is hard. And even though we don’t pray for it the truth is that sometimes storms show up.
Marry a partner who is good in the storm. Who is emotionally stable enough to brace storms.
Who won’t say he went to sleep with another woman because you were pregnant or you’re healing from postpartum wounds
Anybody can love you when you have on a pretty dress and smell like daffodils dipped in chocolate vanilla
Only a “husband” can love you even on days when bathing brushing are luxuries you can’t afford
Blessings!
