Thyreus nitidulus. The neon cuckoo bee. As the name suggests these Australian bees are not only gorgeously striking but they lay their eggs in the nests of blue banded bees to feed on the resources intended for the blue banded bee larvae. Sneaky! #insect#bee#australia
@Halo@XboxGamePassPC@MicrosoftStore@Steam Please, please, please fix the original ported graphics, the nostalgia just isn't the same. Apart from that, love the decision to release on pc
Great Natural Pest Management workshop at the Sustainability Hub at Grantham Heritage Park. Covered issues, preventions, and treatments. It was also fantastic to hear recognition and support for the sustainability of our beneficial insects in urban ecosystems. @blacktowncc
Meet Sydney's smallest sundew, Drosera pygmaea. Drosera may look like beautiful alien organisms to us, however they are carnivorous plants, which ensnare their prey using glue tipped tentacles.
Within the WA outback lies Yarrabubba impact crater, a 70km-wide structure.
And precise dating of melted crystals within the crater indicates a meteorite slammed into the crater 2.229 billion years ago - making it the oldest impact structure on the planet.
Such a cool find on my balcony: mud dauber nests CHOCK-FULL of paralysed spiders to feed the wasp larvae inside!
In the 4 nests there were 48 spiders!!
The beautiful floury baker cicada (Aleeta curvicosta) gets its name from the white 'flour like' colours on its body. It is also (to my knowledge), the only described species in the genus Aleeta.
I'm an entomologist
Skills people think I have:
- identify any insect or spider from a blurry photo
- identify what bit them
Skills I actually have:
- Googling the right words to get an image search close to the bug you photographed
- finding weird bugs that no-one else notices
