Them: "Why are you paying $200/month for health insurance if you still have a $6,000 deductible?"
Me: "So the hospital doesn't bill me $80,000 for a 20-minute ER visit."
Them: "So insurance pays for your care?"
Me: "No. I pay 100% of the bill until I hit the $6,000."
Them: "Then what are you paying $200 a month for?"
Me: "I'm paying $2,400 a year just to access the insurance company’s negotiated discount rate so the hospital doesn't charge me fake, marked-up sticker prices."
Them: ...
Me: You aren't paying for healthcare coverage. You're paying protection money to a middleman just so the system doesn't bankrupt you for a basic blood test.
@katewillett I recommend to listen to this podcast where uft union members discuss about the origin of this controversial legislation.

@SpeakerMenin@CnDelarosa This is a bad faith law. The raise is not pensionable and it's one time "bonus" depended on an annual renewal that doesn't cover all paraprofessional. A poor crafted law by an unpopular Speaker and Union President. An all around lazy and poorly crafted bill.
@bilibili_create Hope there is a dislike button that actually shows how many people disliked a video.
If you have this, I'll completely migrate from @YouTube
This is whiteness at work. An unelected member uses their academic credential to give a sectarian interview denounced by just about every tendency, including his own, and then doubles down and claims a generic right to free speech without reflecting on the actual content.
Ossé went from running against Hakeem Jeffries, to yucking it up with AOC about “woke 1”, to having the DSA clique supporting him for SENATE.
This is how it’s done- you feign progressive politics (which are popular!) to make a name for yourself, then u ditch them & reap rewards
I'm not even DSA and I would defend the platform more than Eric, who wraps his arms around the police in service of protecting elected Democrats.
The difference here is between people who prioritize fighting for a left policy agenda and those who prioritize getting Democrats elected who immediately bend the knee to anti-M4All Zionists like Hakeem Jeffries & authoritarian billionaire Jessica Tisch.
AOC might be one of the most prominent examples of progressives being absorbed by the establishment machine. But she's not an outlier. It's common. This is one of the first moments that taught me lessons about the pitfalls of today's political system. But through the years, I've seen countless more.
We see it now with backtracking on Defund the Police by many prominent progressive Democrats. We saw it with the endorsement of Joe Biden during a genocide he was complicit in.
This is why we have to move away from engaging in the celebritification of our representatives. We have to stand ten toes down and hold them accountable, if and when elected. We have to stop excusing horrific behavior as if being a former Blackwater mercenary and still bragging about it when convenient isn't disqualifying.
The policies many of us are fighting for ARE popular. From Medicare for All to Abolish ICE. We can't leave our movement in the hands of a few ordained figureheads. Especially ones operating within the Democratic Party.

@trash_panda97 I don't know who this we is. The white lib and socdem and unprincipled politicians? Probably
Black people haven't stopped or retreated. Black Lives have not stopped mattering for the many of us.
This failure is on those that did/do not want to hold Zohran accountable.
btw, NYC has a major mental health provider shortage. NYC's Department of Homeless Services has a ratio of ONE social worker for every 78 homeless families, excluding a vacancy rate of 54%. One social worker is responsible for the well-being of 78 families.
