A Crossroads for the #49ers

Atlanta defeats San Francisco, 34-17, to move to 3-0. The Niners' record slips to 1-2.

The Falcons were the defending NFC West champions, and had been not only the sexy preseason pick to repeat as division champs, but to represent the NFC in Super Bowl XVI in January.

The 49ers had lost 12 of their last 16 games.

But following the loss, Niners head coach Bill Walsh challenged his team, saying that he "never wants to see [them] get out-hit like that again".

San Francisco would win 15 of their next 16 games en route to their first Super Bowl title. The Falcons would go 4-9 the rest of the way and miss the playoffs.
