Who told Nigerians that drinking garri automatically means going blind?

If it's processed properly, garri will not affect your eyesight.

If you constantly take garri that's poorly processed, it can contain small amounts of cyanide that can reduce oxygen supply to your eyes, causing severe macular degeneration.

But it won't just affect the eyes alone.

It can get to the thyroid, it can lead to hypothyroidism

Your kidneys and pancreas, too, might be affected as it can reduce insulin production. This insulin is what regulates your blood sugar.

So except you buy garri from wicked people who do not pass the cassava through ALL the processes to properly remove cyanide. It can be poisonous. But the chances are slim.

However, properly processed garri will NOT affect your eyesight.

Don't forget to drink water.
