In 2013-2016, if you wanted to make a memecoin, you made a copy of bitcoin or litecoin and gave it a new funny name. And probably posted on bitcointalk.

Lots of coins did this: Dogecoin (obviously), BBQcoin, BunnyCoin, MoonCoin, Pandacoin, CageCoin, PutinCoin, and dozens more.

The problems were numerous: you need inflation to have any security, the coins need to have value to have any security, the blockchains need to have nodes to continue, and the coins have no interoperability with other blockchains.

An Ethereum smart contract memecoin fixes all this.
