Instead, as The Indian Express reported, it was framed as jeopardising the country’s ‘national security’ and ‘posing a threat to the sovereignty of India.’ Decades ago, the Malaysian lawyer and poet Cecil Rajendra wrote this brilliant poem that captures the idiocy of it better than any pompous editorialising could (not that our ‘mainstream’ media would dare do even that much).

The ECI is not sounding like a constitutional body but an angry and rattled political party that does not want to share footage. Waiting for the lawyers to weigh in with their response to what has been stated by chief election
Commissioner. And the grounds for not sharing footage is protecting privacy of women. Hello, then get rid of facial recognition all over country. If a woman is going to polling booth she would like to know her vote counts and not that ECI has decided to protect her modesty as opposed to ensure her rights.
