Wasn’t that long ago:
“Jose Ferrer for Harry Ford is a failure, Ferrer can’t get anyone out”
“The 2026 Mariners roster is a flop and Dipoto should be fired”
Take a chill pill folks and enjoy the season and let the sample size grow
Most definitely. Mariners SP depth is top of the league, but most playoff teams are going to have at least one SP that is better than the mariners SP1, whoever that is.
Skubal can win you two games in a series.
Based on @JeffPassan great piece on ESPN about possible trade partners next month for the @Mariners….
Would you be willing to trade 4+ years of club control with Emerson Hancock for 2 months of Tarik Skubal?
It's pretty amazing that the Red Sox fired a bunch of people, but didn't fire the person who gave Kristian Campbell a guaranteed contract worth $60,000,000
(some) seattle mariners under team control through the ‘28 season:
- cal raleigh
- josh naylor
- cole young
- colt emerson
- julio rodríguez
- bryan woo
- george kirby
- bryce miller
- emerson hancock
- matt brash
- josé ferrer
- eduard bazaro
- andres muñoz
I feel like people give zero credit to the development process.
You need to acknowledge that today’s version of Colt is better than the version of Colt before an offseason of work, a big league spring training, and 169 AAA at bats.
It’s amazing that the words “overly conservative” are used by Mariners fans to describe the handling of a 20 year old, starting every day in the bigs, after being given a $95M contract.
That’s actually amazing.
@BaseballAdvice Is he better now than he would be if he’d been called up? We don’t know.
Was he better then than the guy he would’ve replaced on the 2025 roster (Rivas)? Strongly lean yes.
Being overly conservative with prospects isn’t always the safest bet.
Should have gone with 45 minutes and 15 minutes.. since calling him up last September would be calling up a version of Colt Emerson minus 25% of his time developing within the Mariners org.
They fast tracked this kid to the bigs as is. And he earned it with awesomeness.
Mariners bake a cake for 35 minutes.
The cake turns out awesome.
"Holy shit guys, we have great cake, we should have taken this out of the oven 15 minutes earlier so we can have awesome cake earlier"
Colt Emerson is awesome now BECAUSE they let him develop.
@colinokeefe Mariners bake a cake for 35 minutes.

Let guys cook.
@colinokeefe and we circle back to the original point.. Mariners are pretty elite at evaluating young talent
Colt competed in spring for the opening day roster and they evaluated him as not ready, so they developed him more.
He developed and now he is ready and awesome.
@colinokeefe words have lost all meaning if you find a single aspect of Colt Emerson's development and handling by the org as "overly conservative"
They didn't promote a 19 year old straight from AA into a playoff push and playoff run
Not one ounce of that is conservative, let alone overly
