New research from Kotz et al published in the Environmental Research Letters links extreme weather events directly to short-term spikes in food prices around the world. New research from Christian Aid shows that the world’s most popular fruit is in serious trouble due to climate change.

🌡️ By 2080, up to 60% of the most suitable banana-growing areas in Latin America and the Caribbean could be lost to rising temperatures and extreme weather.

👩‍🌾 These regions currently grow 80% of bananas exported globally—and for many farmers, bananas are not just a crop, but a lifeline. Climate change is already hitting their harvests, incomes, and communities.

🍌 More than 400 million people rely on bananas for up to 27% of their daily calories, making them the fourth most important food crop after wheat, rice, and maize.
