the TA president of Fulton Elliot Chelsea warns that the demolition of FEC will be a model for the demolition of public housing across the city -- Zohran's admin is happy about this
Claire Valdez waiting tables to pay off an overpriced degree is a more accurate representation of the modern working class than ex-mercenary turned small business owner
Platner was a rich boy's idea of a working class candidate. It's all about being macho and gruff to them, platner *did not* live his life like the average working person.
@lilusdivert NYC-DSA co-chairs along with multiple of our electeds and candidates hosting an event is crossing the boundary between individuals doing something to exploiting DSA leadership priviliges and connections to flex an inter-DSA squabble
@AlbaneseNYC@chiaraliketiara@ZohranKMamdani I think this primary season made it clear the most important dynamic is how many people can you convince to knock doors for free
This is very much to the point though - the fight over Bowman led to efforts spearheaded by DSANYC and the national caucuses in charge of the chapter which resulted in the literal liquidation of an entire Palestine-centered national working group. Like they were NOT happy at all.
@ideologicalized If the co-chairs of NJ or CT DSA (and several of their electeds and candidates) held a fundraiser for Brad Lander, I'm pretty sure a lot of people would give a fuck
@petersterne@OGBlackRedGuard the only reason this fundraiser exists is people in RI who disagreed with RI-DSA’s decision not to endorse in the race reached out to NYC-DSA folks to get around RI-DSA’s decision
do you think people in NYC randomly decided to do a fundraiser for a non-DSA candidate in RI? lol
@demsocsean Yeah and it sparked mass backlash and confusion from members, while people tried to talk her out of it. It's why we need stricter standards, not whataboutisms.
@bse229@lilusdivert I actually did criticize Tlaib for promoting Rana's fundraiser, which is why I'm also criticizing the NYC-DSA co-chair promoting Morales fundraiser (after the RIDSA rescinded their endorsement) while also ignoring RIDSA's own endorsed candidate for assembly
@katewillett I don't know if I agree with this because:
A) that often raises rents to offset costs
B) a lot of immigrant families bought homes in the 90s back when it was affordable, and frankly are financially struggling more than a lot of renters
Why would Platner seek public office, knowing reporters are gonna be everywhere, and this crazy stuff is gonna come out? Your buddies from high school, dudes you were with in the war, your exes, reporters are gonna be hitting them up, or they’re gonna be hitting reporters up. You really thought they wouldn’t find out that you’re a drunk that can’t keep your hands to yourself? Arrogant, stupid fool.
part of what gets subsumed in the aoc or not discourse, and why we need democratic deliberation is that there are multiple debates happening at once: 1) should we run, 2) who, 3) to win or agitate, 4 (i guess) is a coup imminent lol
