20 years ago, we started with a simple idea: Mental Health is a Human Right.
Reflecting on #BasicNeeds@20, we are moved by how far the global conversation has come. From a "footnote" in 2005 to a primary focus in 2026 – progress is real, and we are just getting started.
Data isn't optional, it's how we turn community projects from 'nice try' into lasting impact!
We're excited to join the #GlobalDataFestival with @CBM_Global_KE and community participants key in data collection for our projects.
We're here to learn why data is the gamechanger.
We recently held a strategic meeting with Pwani University (@PU_Kilifi) & The University of British Columbia (@UBC) to kickstart a powerful collaboration in advancing #Research on #MentalHealth and Social #Inclusion
Together we’re building knowledge that drives change

Supporting journalists’ well-being is key to a strong profession.
In partnership with the @MediaCouncilK and Basic Needs Basic Rights Kenya, we hosted a Mental Health Master Class for journalists.
The session provided a safe and confidential platform for journalists to share their experiences, interact with mental health experts, and strengthen their knowledge on personal safety and trauma-informed reporting.
Relive the highlights from the session👇
Loureene, our Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning assistant from Kilifi says her highlight is the impact we have had in the community on access to care and education for special needs learners. What's yours?
