July patent documentation from Sony revealed the modular DualSense 2.0 controller designed for PlayStation 6. The peripheral includes a detachable 2.5-inch color touchscreen positioned where the standard touchpad normally sits, supported by an internal magnetic base that allows players to physically swap analog sticks and directional buttons. The display renders navigation maps, inventories, and incoming system alerts.
Playing full-scale games will not work, as many users originally thought, hoping for portable execution on the controller. Major upcoming releases like The Witcher 4 or the next Uncharted cannot run on the 2.5-inch screen due to tiny interface elements, extreme battery consumption, and thermal issues within the compact chassis.
Instead of heavy productions, the screen executes standalone PlayStation 6 companion mini-games with direct touch input. Core games remain on televisions, while the gamepad handles companion tasks.
