My main takeaway from watching the Lord of the Rings and Indiana Jones movies for the past week is that movies nowadays don’t have enough skulls and giant cobwebs.
I also got to see four Star Wars movies on the big screen this year as well: PHANTOM MENACE in Dolby, the Sequel Trilogy at the BFI IMAX on my birthday, and REVENGE OF THE SITH at the same screen a month later. Incredibly blessed.
My favourite films of the year. After those first 10 or so the ranked aspect gets a bit iffy, as they're all pretty good for different reasons. Another year without a full 5 star movie :(
Feel free to shout at me for being wrong x
We’re doing an INDIANA JONES rewatch, and just wrapped up TEMPLE OF DOOM: everything else that’s dodgy about this one aside, I’m genuinely shocked at how bad some of the compositing and matte work is, considering ILM’s work on RETURN OF THE JEDI just a year prior.
Crucially, nu-WALLACE AND GROMIT remembered that these should be a bit scary - somewhere out there, a small child has developed a trauma response to robots, and I think that’s wonderful x
Song itself hasn't aged well, but the bit in 'Do They Know Its Christmas' where it almost turns into the middle eight from the Doctor Who theme? Banger.
Christopher Nolan’s next film ‘The Odyssey’ is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.
@total_legend Yup! I hadn’t watched any since worlds, and either I’m too used to Delta arena/unranked matchmaking but bloody hell, the speed on those lads!
