Many people know that heparin is considered Haram (forbidden ❌) by some Muslim patients because it is derived from pork 🐖.

Did you know that a common surfactant given to neonates 👶 with respiratory distress syndrome 🫁, Curosurf, is also pork-derived?

Muslim scholars will often allow medications with Haram ingredients to be used if they are life-saving and there are no other suitable options.

The MELODY Phase III trial showed the potential efficacy of Beyfortus against hospitalisation was 60.2% (95% CI: -14.6, 86.2). A reduction from 0.6% in treatment arm vs 1.6% in placebo arm.
