Today we remember the 6 million Jewish people who were murdered by the Nazi regime in the 20th century.
We mourn those we lost and continue to honour the courage of survivors whose testimony will educate future generations.
At Christmas we mark the birth of Christ. A wonderful story of hope, humility and peace at the most special time of year.
Christmas is a time for making merry and seeing friends, but more than anything, it’s about family.
That’s why, to those working tomorrow and spending time away from their loved ones, I want to say thank you for keeping the country going.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas.
Though I yield to nobody in my view that BoJo was just about the least appropriate person to have as PM when Covid struck, I’m sceptical of the Hallet report’s claim that had he locked down a week earlier 23,000 lives would have been saved. First, it’s easy to be wise after the event. At the time nobody was quite sure what was happening. Second, that figure depends on modelling. And by now we should all have learned to be extremely sceptical of modelling.
🚨 #TaxiTax = #CouncilTax 🚨
Think Rachel Reeves’s new tax won’t hit you? Think again…
Looks like @UKLabour’s Taxi Tax will end up on #CouncilTax payers bills with a massive hundreds of millions hit to transporting disabled people

Let’s not forget that most of what we’re now borrowing is spent on meeting the cost of previous borrowing.
The OBR reckons we’ll borrow £143 billion this financial year 2025/26 (it will be more than that).
It also estimates we’ll spend £111 billion paying interest on existing debt (it will be more than that).
The cost of servicing the national debt now takes over 8% of government spending and is almost 4% of our GDP.
And 77% of what we’ll borrow this year will be spent on interest incurred on previous borrowing.
It is unsustainable.
Rachel Reeves is hungry for cash...and she's looking for it in your pocket.
Whatever happens today, one thing's for sure...
You're gonna need a bigger wallet.
It looks like Keir Starmer is about sell out Britain to the European Union, and destroy the British fishing industry in the process.
We're clear: If he gives powers away to Brussels today, a future Conservative government will take them back.
We're deeply saddened by the passing of @DaveBHarry, Chairman of #Basildon Council (1986-8) & 3rd Mayor (2016-18), first elected in 1974. He was principled & tenacious. Respected on all sides for his hard work & dedication. Our thoughts go out to his wife, Linda, & family. RIP
So, it's official. Despite insisting local elections would go ahead only a week ago, #Basildon Labour voted to cancel next year's local elections.
