@The_Grumbler Yes didn’t really get that momentum into the second half of our innings to push on closer to 220. Still wouldn’t have been enough mind, outstanding knocks from Simpson and Coles in particular to rip our hearts out.
From 100-0 off 10 to 191-5 can’t help but feel Essex have left a few out there. Plenty of options with the ball, need to find the right combinations and match-ups early.
@ViewfromtheBpod Yes completely agree, I’d like to see more Test fringe players appearing in these fixtures rather than a full XI consisting of players for the future. Seems a fairly recent shift away from this, perhaps due to fixture crossovers, etc.
@ToppersSnr Inevitably creates a weakened batting line-up, they will have known Cox would’ve been missing the opening stages of the CC but there should still be enough quality in the current line-up to do better than we currently are.
@The_Grumbler Yes I agree those two showed the way, just think we were a batter light. Of course there’s no guarantee an incoming batter would score the match defining runs, just better balanced for me. Problem when you lose a genuine all-rounder, takes more than one player to replace them!
@The_Grumbler Agree that we should have enough quality with the bat in the current side, however, I was concerned replacing a bat like Mulder with a bowler, despite Akhter looking decent for a number 10 in the second innings.
in the sides is subjective, personally he looked a very good fit at 7 and offering some overs with the ball in ODI cricket. However, it’s not a great advert for players on the fringe or outside that inner circle if these reports are accurate.
Really disappointing aspects of this story, surely communication could’ve been so much better for someone trying to get back into the side and is a potential matchwinner.
Two phone calls, lasting a minute each.
Liam Livingstone says that is the sum total of his contact with England's management since his most recent international appearance 12 months ago.

To hear Key say he had “100 more important things to do” than speak to Livingstone may be true but far from the best way to handle things. Whether or not you think Livingstone warrants his place in the white ball squads or deserved a more prominent role
@cricketagency@JamesColeCricX It’s utterly ridiculous whichever way you look at it! The benefits UK players get from going to other countries is invaluable why are we stopping talented cricketers coming over to strengthen our competitions??! Ridiculously bad.
@cricketagency@JamesColeCricX Haven’t these rules been in for a few years with overseas players allowed to come over but not for the cricket primarily? Is the WEPL just a bit behind in terms of ‘implementing’ this?
@cricket_badger I’d be very interested in the messages players are getting from their county. Are they encouraged to go out and play with a certain freedom they may previously not have enjoyed, will team tactics shift slightly (or more than that) in line with national team directives?!
@backandacross Nasser came in and skippered England in a similar hour of need, I have no doubt he’d do an equally impressive job as DoC if he wanted the position. He needs to be given the authority required to get this side back on track.
@ESPNcricinfo It isn’t rocket science for me, regardless of format the better games are always when there is a fair battle between bat and ball. No problem with it being ‘slightly’ weighted in favour of the batsmen in the shortest format, but can’t have it so lopsided.
Good disciplined start today from SL, but disappointing shot from the new WI skipper though, a man renowned for his patience just wafted at one there. #WIvSL
@DarenGanga@Jaseholder98@OfficialSLC Bowls with such accuracy and canniness, years ago I doubted whether he had enough in his armoury to crack Test cricket, I now stand well and truly corrected. Great character today and will still be vital for WI going forward.
