My blind and developmentally disabled infirm adult son and I had the distinct privilege and honor of participating in the Motorcycle Escort for Randy Couture and the Xtreme Couture GI Foundation (XCGIF) riders during their 18th Annual Ride for the Troops on this past Saturday May 16, 2026.
My son remains incredibly excited about meeting Randy Couture and participating in such a meaningful event. He continues sharing his enthusiasm with everyone around him as he recounts his experience and educates others about the organization and event from his perspective.
I would like to extend our sincere thanks to Randy Couture, as well as the event coordinators, statt, and volunteers of the Xtreme Couture Gi Foundation (XCGIF), on our behalt.

@XCGIF_ To Whom It May Concern,
My name is Michael Melancon, and I am an honorably discharged and retired United States Marine combat veteran who served our nation for 20 years on active duty both ashore and afloat. Like many veterans, I returned home carrying service-connected disabilities from my military service.
Today, however, I find myself fighting the most important battle of my life — protecting and caring for my blind and developmentally disabled adult son after authorities discovered evidence of severe abuse and neglect while he was being concealed from me in Louisiana.
On January 1, 2026, deputies with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a situation involving my son after he had been missing from me for an extended period of time while under the care of his mother and her longtime boyfriend. Authorities later described the living conditions where he was found as deplorable, with evidence indicating severe neglect and long-term physical abuse.
After learning of the situation, I immediately retained legal counsel, traveled to Louisiana, and filed emergency pleadings seeking protection for my son. Shortly afterward, his mother and her boyfriend fled with him again, resulting in a Missing Persons investigation and entry into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.
In March 2026, my son was finally located, removed from that environment, and safely placed with me.
Upon bringing him home and obtaining emergency medical evaluation, physicians discovered: • Two facial skull fractures already healing on their own • New bruising around his eye • Numerous bruises in various stages of healing across his body • Evidence consistent with repeated physical abuse over time
I also discovered that he had reportedly been denied consistent medical care and that his insurance coverage had been allowed to lapse during the period he was concealed from me.
Since recovering my son, I have dedicated myself entirely to providing him with safety, medical care, counseling, housing stability, transportation, and daily support as he begins recovering physically and emotionally from this trauma.
Unfortunately, the emotional and financial burdens associated with his care, medical treatment, legal proceedings, and long-term support needs have become overwhelming.
I am respectfully reaching out to your organization to request any assistance, guidance, resources, advocacy, or support you may be able to provide for a disabled combat veteran attempting to protect and care for his severely disabled adult son under these extraordinary circumstances.
Any support — whether financial assistance, legal resources, counseling referrals, veteran advocacy, housing assistance, medical guidance, or simply helping share our story — would be deeply appreciated.
Thank you for your time, compassion, and continued support of America’s veterans and their families. Your consideration means more than words can adequately express during this difficult time.
Respectfully,
Michael Melancon Retired United States Marine
