I am proud and grateful to present a dream project today in @Nature! https://t.co/6P8mkNp1gZ
Meet #Mirasaura grauvogeli, a #wonderreptilewith skin appendages that rival feathers and hairs, challenging our view of reptile #evolution🪶🦎
#Mirasaura brought me home to #Ireland during this work, where I could show my 92-year-old grandad these exceptionally preserved fossils. To which he replied, "It's just wonderful to see something older than me and age so well"
He couldn't be more right. ☘️ #FossilPreservation
🚨 So excited to finally share an incredible discovery from the #Triassic, Grès à Voltzia! Our international team, led by @StephanSpiekman and published today @Nature reveals a new reptile, #Mirasaura grauvogeli, donning an elaborate crest 🦎🔬✨ https://t.co/DY0fDuydVm
Our analyses detected #melanosomes within the crest's soft tissues. These resemble those in modern feathers more than those in reptilian skin or mammalian hair. Suggesting the crest of #Mirasaura may have been pigmented and displayed visually🌈 @MariaMcN_palaeo@_Tiffany_Slater
You can find me over on @bluesky at orlabe! I will soon be leaving this platform like many others have already done.
Catch you on the other side! #NewYearNewMe

I’m really excited to announce that I’ll be starting as an assistant professor at the University of California Riverside @UCRiverside in Fall 2025. I couldn’t have been more impressed with the strength of the students and the generosity of the faculty I met with while visiting!
Happy to share the second chapter of my PhD about "Paleobiological implications of chevron pathology in the sauropodomorph Plateosaurus trossingensis from the Upper Triassic of SW Germany"
Thanks to all my co-authors for their wonderful work.
