India recorded over 15 lakh new cancer cases in 2024, with Delhi alone accounting for 28,000+ cases. This isn’t just a statistic, it’s a national alarm bell. The article highlights not only the sharp rise in cancers but also how our daily environment is steadily eroding public health.

When you put this alongside Delhi’s spiralling pollution data, including 2 lakh+ acute respiratory illness cases in the last two years, the pattern is impossible to ignore. Toxic air isn’t just causing coughs and breathlessness; it’s creating long-term stress on the body, weakening immunity, burdening families, and increasing vulnerability to chronic diseases.

Air pollution isn’t a seasonal inconvenience. It’s quietly shaping India’s health future & these numbers make that painfully clear. We need urgent, science driven, year round interventions.

Just read this report by Jay Mazoomdaar.

Now, more than 90% of the Aravali Hills will not be counted as Aravalli any more and be potentially open to mining and construction with severe environmental ramifications, including the quality of air in Delhi-NCR.

The manner in which the Ministry of Environment came up with this disastrous definition of Aravalli Hills, to exclude 90% of them from environmental safeguards, in stark contrast to what the Forest Survey of India had recommended, then the manner in which the Central Empowered Committee, a creation of the Supreme Court, blessed it, and how ex-Chief Justice Gavai's bench sanctified this unholy proposal---all a telling example of how every institution connived to destroy the Aravalli for corporate misuse and to leave people of NCR-Delhi gasping for clean air!

The Central Pollution Control Board has found heavy metals such as copper, zinc, chromium and molybdenum in the air of Delhi and nine other Indian cities, accounting for up to @ 2% of PM10. Yet India still lacks air standards for many of these toxic metals.
