Tues: Same as yesterday... Not much to say. Getting closer I guess π€·ββοΈ. I feel like I want to hold back new versions until I can put out a new release on all platforms at once, but now that I think about it.... I don't know why that's important? Hmm.
@rrenna Android needs the most work right now. I have an iOS build ready but needs testing iOS 16, pending an update to my dev tools. PC/Mac build is halfway there (M1 mac stuff in particular), but I've left it aside for the moment to focus on Android.
Mon: The Android file permission thing is banked. There are a lots of other code changes that need to be made and reviewed, because I updated all the libraries and the SDK version the app depends upon. And I want to make sure they're correct. This is what I was working on today.
Whew, a bit late here. Monkey Island took over, so I blitzed the game over weds/thurs last week to get it off of my plate (counting that as my days off that week). TLDR, I enjoyed it very much, the nostalgia was strong :)
On the one hand, it's good to eat well and spend time with friends. On the other, I need to be more consistent with work, and the last few days were not good for that.
Still, I fell off the wagon a bit over the weekend. I had to prepare for flat viewings, and I spent time with friends at the Canterbury food festival. But I didn't make the progress I planned to on BattleScribe over that time, and had more beers than I intended to over that time.
In other news, I got a bit distracted today because Return To Monkey Island came out and it's bloody great... It really gets things right with regards to the vibe of the original games. And it does point-and-click mechanics incredibly well in a modern context.
Tues: Android file permissions cont.: Made tweaks, reviewed and finally committed the code. Of course I just discovered that I may be able to avoid all this entirely - although it requires a special review from Google Play when submitting the app.
@RollForSanity I agree entirely - this is why I'm really concerned that "navigate to a folder" is going to cause confusion for a small but significant number of people... I need to make a video don't I? :|
Here's how the "select the correct folder" instructions look now, and I don't think it's good enough. I can make more screenshots to explain further, but then the page may not fit on a single screen. Not happy tbh.
@mech__warrior I don't think people are stupid (mostly) - just that the concept of a nested filesystem and how to navigate it is not natural these days. Phones are people's primary computers, and they hide the concept of a structure of nested files and folders behind their UI... It's hidden.
Seems I forgot to do an update for Friday, and tbh I don't remember for the life of me what I was doing... So let's say "fiddling around with stuff"...
Mon: Spent today messing around with Android's Storage Access Framework trying to get it to do what I need, to no avail. I'm going to need to ask users to navigate through their filesystem to a specific folder manually... It's not hard, but it's going to lead to trouble... π¬
Saturday: day off. Spent all day on my feet cooking, drinking lots of nice beers and eating waaay too much. Not gonna lie, on Sunday I was absolutely shattered and didn't get anything useful done... Not a planned day off, so not happy with that, but it was worth it.
