DHS Pals had the opportunity to explore the beautiful city of Ypres this afternoon. I think it’s fair to say the chocolate shops will have made a penny or two (and lots of happy pupils)! @DunblaneHS
Langemark, German Comrades Grave - where over 45,000 German soldiers are buried. Quite an eye opener for our DHS Pals to see after visiting some of the other cemeteries! @DunblaneHS
Tyne Cot Cemetery - the largest Commonwealth soldier war grave cemetery in the world! Two of our pupils left a wreath at George Wilson’s (a soldier of the Black Watch Battalion) grave to show our respect! @DunblaneHS
Coy B visited The Brooding Soldier Monument this morning. You can see the soldier has his rifle pointing down and he is bowing his head to show his respect for the dead Canadian soldiers who fought in the Second Battle of Ypres where gas was used by the Germans for the first time
Vimy Ridge Monument, where there is over 11,000 names of fallen soldiers who have no grave! You can see the torch of hope being passed, in hope that nothing like The Great War will ever happen again! @DunblaneHS
Dartmoor Cemetery - pupils learned about the stories of various serving soldiers and the impact their service had on their loved ones at home. Henry Webber’s grave is pictured below, he was the second oldest soldier to die in the war! @DunblaneHS
