A 3-Minute Nap Almost Cost an Honest Man His Dignity

Security guard Ramkishan sat quietly at the main gate.
For the first time in years, he accidentally dozed off.
Just for three minutes.
At that exact moment, the society chairman's son drove in. He noticed Ramkishan sleeping, smirked, pulled out his phone, and started recording.
"Look at this guy," he said. "Getting paid to sleep while we're trusting him with our safety."
Within minutes, the video was posted in the society WhatsApp group.
By morning, the comments were pouring in:
❌ "Fire him immediately."
❌ "This is pure negligence."
❌ "People like him don't deserve these jobs."
More than 150 messages.
Not a single person asked why he had fallen asleep.
6:05 AM
Ramkishan was summoned to the society office.
The chairman slammed his hand on the table.
"Do you even want this job?"
Ramkishan quietly removed his cap.
His eyes were red and swollen with exhaustion.
Then he spoke softly.
"Sir, I started work yesterday at 2 PM."
"The other guard was sick, so the agency asked me to cover his shift too. They offered me an extra ₹300."
"At around 1 AM, I chased away three boys trying to climb the back wall."
"Then, at 1:45, a resident asked me to warm milk for Bruno, her dog."
"At 2:10, I finally sat down for a minute... and my eyes closed."
The room fell silent.
"My salary is ₹12,000 a month."
"₹4,000 goes toward rent."
"₹2,000 I send to my parents in the village."
"The rest supports my wife and our two children."
"My son studies in the 9th grade."
"Every day I tell him, 'Study hard, son. Otherwise, life may force you to stand awake at someone else's gate forever.'"
He paused.
Then he looked up.
"You recorded my three minutes of weakness."
"But in eight years, nobody recorded the thousands of nights I stayed awake protecting this society."
"If human beings were never meant to get tired... God would have made us machines."
No one in the room could meet his eyes.
That evening, a new notice appeared on the society bulletin board:
✔️ Two guards per shift
✔️ Maximum 8-hour duty
✔️ Salary increased to ₹18,000
✔️ Overtime paid separately
Additional cost per flat: ₹200 per month
And at the bottom, one sentence:
"We can hire security, but we cannot buy a human being's life."
10:00 PM
For the first time in a long while, Ramkishan was heading home early.
As he reached the gate, the chairman's son stopped him.
He removed his helmet and spoke quietly.
"Uncle... I deleted the video."
"And from tomorrow, your night tea is on me."
Ramkishan smiled.
Sometimes people are not careless.
Sometimes they are simply exhausted.

ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಜನರ ಸರ್ವತೋಮುಖ ಪ್ರಗತಿಯ ಭರವಸೆಯನ್ನಿತ್ತು ಅಧಿಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಿರುವ ನಾವು ಜನತೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟ ಈ ಅವಕಾಶವನ್ನು ಅಧಿಕಾರವೆಂದು ಭಾವಿಸದೆ, ಸೇವೆಯ ಭಾಗ್ಯವೆಂದು ತಿಳಿದು ಈ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ನೂತನ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ನಾಡಿಗೆ ಜನತೆಗೆ ಅರ್ಪಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ.

* ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣಕ್ಕೆ ನೆರವಾಗುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಹಂತದ ಶಾಲಾ-ಕಾಲೇಜುಗಳ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಉಚಿತ ಬಸ್ ಪಾಸ್ ಒದಗಿಸುವ ನಿರ್ಣಯವನ್ನು ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಸಂಬಂಧಪಟ್ಟ ಅರ್ಜಿ ವಿತರಣೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸಾರಿಗೆ ಇಲಾಖೆಯು ಸದ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಕ್ರಮ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳಲಿದೆ.

* ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಉದ್ಯೋಗದ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ನೀಗಿಸುವ ದಿಸೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರ, ಈಗಾಗಲೇ 56,000 ಹುದ್ದೆಗಳನ್ನು ಭರ್ತಿಗೊಳಿಸುವ ನಿರ್ಣಯವನ್ನು ಕೈಗೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಈ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ತೊಡಕುಗಳನ್ನು ನಿವಾರಿಸಿ ನೇಮಕಾತಿ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಸೂಕ್ತ ಕ್ರಮ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳಲಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಾಜ್ಯವು ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟದ ಮಾನವಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತದ ರಾಜಧಾನಿಯೆಂದೇ ಹೆಸರು ಗಳಿಸಿದೆ. ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ, ಆರೋಗ್ಯ, ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನ, ಐಟಿ ಬಿಟಿ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ವಿವಿಧ ವಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಿಂದ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಮಾನವಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲ ಮೂಡಿಬಂದಿದೆ. ಖಾಸಗಿ ರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ಬಯಸುವ ಯುವಜನರಿಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಖಾಸಗಿ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳ ಉದ್ಯೋಗದ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಸಂಪರ್ಕ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸುವ 'ಯುವ ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ಸೇತು' ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಲು ನಿರ್ಣಯಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಈ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯ ಕೇಂದ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿರುವ ತರಬೇತಿಯನ್ನೂ ನೀಡಿ, ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಅಭ್ಯರ್ಥಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಂಪನಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುವುದು. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದವರಿಗೆ, ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರಿಗೆ ಉದ್ಯೋಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಪಾಲು ನೀಡಲಾಗುವುದು. ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರಿಗೆ ನೀಡಬೇಕಾದ ಉದ್ಯೋಗದ ಶೇಕಡಾವಾರನ್ನು ಕಂಪನಿಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಚರ್ಚಿಸಿ ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು.

ಈ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಯುವಕರು, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು, ನಿರುದ್ಯೋಗಗಳ ಉದ್ಯೋಗದ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಬಗೆಹರಿಸುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಬದ್ಧವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಯುವಕರನ್ನು ಜಾಗತಿಕ ಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ತಯಾರು ಮಾಡುವ ಅವಕಾಶ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡಲು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ತಿಂಗಳೊಳಗೆ ಈ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ರೂಪುರೇಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಿದ್ಧಪಡಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು. ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಆನ್ ಲೈನ್ ಮೂಲಕ ಲಭ್ಯವಾಗಲಿದೆ.

* 10,000 ಭಾರತ ಜೋಡೋ ಯುವಕ ಸಂಘ ರಚಿಸಲು ತೀರ್ಮಾನಿಸಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಪ್ರತಿ ಪಂಚಾಯತಿಗೂ ಒಂದು ಯುವಕ ಸಂಘ ರಚಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಸಂಘದಲ್ಲಿ ಕನಿಷ್ಠ 150 ರಿಂದ 200 ಜನರಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಕ್ರೀಡೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಯುವಕ ಸಂಘಗಳು ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳುವುದಲ್ಲದೇ ನಾಯಕತ್ವ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಗೆ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಸಾಮರಸ್ಯ ಕಾಪಾಡಲು ಶ್ರಮಿಸಲಿವೆ. ಅವರ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಗೂ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಅವಕಾಶ ದೊರೆಯಲಿದೆ. ಭಾರತ ಜೋಡೋ ಯುವಕ ಸಂಘಗಳಿಗೆ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ತಲಾ 10 ಲಕ್ಷ ರೂ.ಗಳ ಅನುದಾನ ನೀಡಲಿದೆ.

* ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಇದ್ದು, 2500 ಅಡಿ ನಿವೇಶನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾಗಿರುವ ವಸತಿ ಕಟ್ಟಡಗಳಿಗೆ ಒಸಿ (OC) ಮತ್ತು ಸಿಸಿ (CC) ಪಡೆಯುವುದರಿಂದ ಒಂದು ಬಾರಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ವಿನಾಯಿತಿ ನೀಡಲು ತೀರ್ಮಾನಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

* ಬಿ ಖಾತೆಯನ್ನು ಎ ಖಾತೆಯಾಗಿ ಪರಿವರ್ತಿಸುವ ಅಭಿಯಾನವನ್ನು ಇಡೀ ರಾಜ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸಲು ತೀರ್ಮಾನಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಆರನೇ ಗ್ಯಾರಂಟಿಯಾದ ಭೂ ಗ್ಯಾರಂಟಿಗೆ ಸೂಕ್ತ ದಾಖಲೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡಲು ತೀರ್ಮಾನಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

* ನಗರ ಮೂಲಸೌಕರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಉತ್ತಮಗೊಳಿಸಲು, ಚಾಲ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕಾಮಗಾರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊರತುಪಡಿಸಿ ಜಿಬಿಎ, ಬಿಡಿಎ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿ ಸೇರಿ ಕೇವಲ ರಸ್ತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಉತ್ತಮಪಡಿಸಲು 2000 ಕೋಟಿ ರೂ.ಗಳನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸಲು ತೀರ್ಮಾನಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರು ಮತ್ತು ಬೋಧಕೇತರ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿಗಳ ಹಾಜರಾತಿಯನ್ನು ದಾಖಲಿಸಲು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಅಡ್ವಾನ್ಸ್ ಅಟೆಂಡೆನ್ಸ್ ಮ್ಯಾನೇಜ್‌ಮೆಂಟ್ ಸಿಸ್ಟಮ್ (ಕರ್ತವ್ಯ-KAAMS) ಎಂಬ ಮೊಬೈಲ್ ಅಪ್ಲಿಕೇಶನ್ ಅನ್ನು ಕಡ್ಡಾಯಗೊಳಿಸಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರವು ಆದೇಶ ಹೊರಡಿಸಿದೆ. ಕೃತಕ ಬುದ್ಧಿಮತ್ತೆ (AI) ಮತ್ತು ಜಿಐಎಸ್ (GIS) ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನ ಆಧಾರಿತ ಈ ಅಪ್ಲಿಕೇಶನ್ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ನಿಗದಿತ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯದ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿ, ತರಬೇತಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅಥವಾ ಪರೀಕ್ಷಾ ಮೌಲ್ಯಮಾಪನ ಕೇಂದ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿದಿನ ಎರಡು ಬಾರಿ (In Time & Out Time) ಮುಖಚಹರೆ ಗುರುತಿಸುವಿಕೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹಾಜರಾತಿ ದಾಖಲಿಸಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇನ್ನು ಮುಂದೆ ಕೇವಲ KAAMS ನಲ್ಲಿ ದಾಖಲಾಗುವ ಹಾಜರಾತಿಯನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ವೇತನ ಪಾವತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಹಳೆಯ ಬಯೋಮೆಟ್ರಿಕ್ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯು ರದ್ದಾಗಲಿದೆ.

The government has issued an order mandating the use of the Karnataka Advanced Attendance Management System (Kartavya-KAAMS) mobile application to record the attendance of both teaching and non-teaching staff. This AI and GIS-based application requires employees to register their attendance twice daily (In Time & Out Time) via facial recognition at their designated place of duty, training centres, or examination evaluation centres. Moving forward, only the attendance recorded in KAAMS will be considered for salary payments and other benefits, as the old biometric system will be discontinued.

ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಶಾಲಾ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮೌಲ್ಯ ನಿರ್ಣಯ ಮಂಡಲಿಯು ಎಸ್‌ಎಸ್‌ಎಲ್‌ಸಿ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆ-2 ರ ಅಂತಿಮ ವೇಳಾಪಟ್ಟಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸಿ, ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆ ನಡೆಸಲು ಸಿದ್ಧತೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆ-1ರಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಫಲರಾದವರು ಈ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಯಶಸ್ಸು ಪಡೆಯಲೇಬೇಕು. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಸಮಯ ವ್ಯರ್ಥಮಾಡದೆ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಸಿದ್ಧತೆ ನಡೆಸಿ. ಈ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವೀಫಲರಾಗಲು ಕಾರಣವೇನೆಂಬುದು ನಿಮಗೆ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಗೊತ್ತಿದೆ. ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ಆ ತಪ್ಪು ಆಗದಂತೆ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆ ವಹಿಸಿ. ಈ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಗೆ ಸಿದ್ಧತೆ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಶುಭ ಹಾರೈಕೆಗಳು.

In the year 1998, I was a probationer in the IAS Academy (@LBSNAA_Official ).

The then Director, Shri. B.S. Baswan, IAS (retd), hosted a farewell for us and I got a chance to have few words with him.

I asked him, ‘What would be your one single advice to me, sir?’

He said, ‘Behave with everyone around as you will behave the day after you retire.’

At that age, 27, and having more than 30 years ahead, I didn’t immediately understand its importance. But, over the years, it is his advice that has consistently helped me to be humble and deflate my arrogance that used to rear its head now and then.

Thank you, Baswan sir! You are a very rare gem. You taught so much to me in few words.

Humility, humanity and compassion are the three pillars of public service. Everything else comes after.
