Awards GALORE for the department this year! Massive congratulations to our Faculty of Science and Technology award winners and to all those nominated ๐ We are very lucky to have such incredible staff @LancsUniSciTech
@Andrestrujado I enjoy doing the bouncy ball across the temperature range (room temp to liq N2). Room temp very bouncy little noise , liquid nitrogen, metallic sound and does bounce may shatter if your very forceful. Dry ice temp no bounce!
@UncleBo80053383@CLEAPSS@RSC_EiC@SciInSchool@ChemEdX I should add I place these in each of the fume hoods to enable students to do weighing of reagents (ca 1-5g) without waiting for a free balance. This is true time saver, however they do share the space with the odd incontinent acetone bottles. So not always the students fault๐
@UncleBo80053383@CLEAPSS@RSC_EiC@SciInSchool@ChemEdX One thing I have found is they are not very solvent resistant and I tend to go for the ยฃ15 ones now after melting a few in organic synthesis. absolutely fine for Aq systems.
@chembameditor i find it of great benifit to the training of technicians supporting teaching. Great for confidence and development of the technician as a demonstrator in undergraduate teaching lab. It is fun and something they own.

Column chromatography in a box: Separation of Ibuprofen and Paracetamol
An extension experiment for A-level/BTEC students re-purposing plastic syringes to construct a mini-column.
@DrKevinMorgan I think the demonstration could work, have done it on a larger 20 mL syringe column with 200 mg sample. You could get the students to do TLC analysis and demo the column, and distribute fractions.
