🚨 🗣️ROMA’S COACH GIAN PIERO GASPERINI AFTER THE MATCH: “I HAVE NEVER SEEN A PLAYER AS TALENTED AS ARDA GÜLER.” **
Interviewer: You were having a competitive game against Real Madrid in the first half. What changed after the break?
Gian Piero Gasperini: Honestly, we were doing quite well. We had a clear plan, we were controlling certain areas of the pitch, and we believed we could get the result we wanted. But everything changed when Arda Güler came onto the pitch.
Suddenly, Real Madrid had a different rhythm. Their passing became sharper, their movements became more unpredictable, and we started struggling to control the midfield. It was as if we were playing against a completely different team.
Interviewer: Are you saying Arda Güler was the difference between the two teams?
Gian Piero Gasperini: Absolutely. I have never seen a player with such extraordinary talent at his age. His vision, technique, composure, and understanding of football are exceptional. He doesn’t need several touches to make something happen. Sometimes, one pass from him is enough to destroy an opponent’s entire defensive structure.
What impressed me most was his ability to drop deep, collect the ball, connect the defence to the attack, and immediately identify spaces that our players were struggling to protect.
You can prepare for Mbappé’s pace, you can organise your defence against Bellingham’s runs, but how do you prepare for a player who sees a pass before everyone else even realises the opportunity exists?
Interviewer: What makes him so difficult to defend against?
Gian Piero Gasperini: His intelligence. Many players are technically gifted, but Arda combines technique with an incredible footballing brain. He knows when to accelerate the game, when to slow it down, when to play between the lines, and when to deliver that decisive pass.
The most frightening thing is that he makes difficult football look simple. He can be surrounded by three opponents and still find a way to escape pressure or create an opportunity for his teammates.
And when you give him even a little space, he punishes you. When you close him down, he finds another solution. That is the quality of a special player.
Interviewer: He came off the bench and registered two assists. Were you surprised by his impact?
Gian Piero Gasperini: Surprised? Perhaps by how quickly he changed the game, but never by his quality after seeing what he can do.
Coming off the bench and producing two assists against a team like ours tells you everything about his mentality and readiness. He entered the game with confidence, took responsibility, and immediately started influencing the outcome.
For me, the biggest mistake an opponent can make is assuming that Arda Güler is less dangerous because he isn’t in the starting eleven. Bringing him on when the opposition is already tired makes him even more difficult to contain.
Interviewer: Do you believe he deserves to be a regular starter for Real Madrid?
Gian Piero Gasperini: That is a decision for José Mourinho, but from an opponent’s perspective, I can tell you that I would not want a player like Arda sitting on the bench while I am trying to win a match.
Players with his vision and creativity are rare. He doesn’t just improve the midfield; he improves the players around him. Forwards benefit from his passing, midfielders benefit from his awareness, and the entire team becomes more dangerous because he can connect every department.
Interviewer: Finally, what would you say to those who still question Arda Güler’s importance?
Gian Piero Gasperini: I would tell them to watch the match again.
Watch what happened before he entered the pitch, and then watch what happened afterwards. Observe his movement, his passing, his decision-making, and the chances he created.
