Why is Melissa Conyears-Ervin running for Illinois’ 7th Congressional District ?

Both the Chicago Board of Ethics and the City of Chicago Office of Inspector General found that Chicago City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin violated the city’s ethics ordinance. Investigators determined she directed staff to use city time and resources for political and personal purposes and fired employees who raised concerns.
• She ultimately agreed to pay about $30,000 in fines related to those ethics violations.
• The City of Chicago also paid $100,000 to settle a lawsuit from former employees who said they were wrongfully fired after raising concerns about misconduct.

Her husband, Jason Ervin, has also faced controversy related to properties he owned that police and community members associated with drug activity and repeated complaints — while serving as alderman in the very ward dealing with those issues.

Despite these ethics findings and controversies, Conyears-Ervin is now campaigning for higher office and promoting policies like abolishing ICE and confronting Donald Trump.

Chicago voters should ask a simple question:

If someone has already been found to violate ethics rules while managing city finances, why should they be trusted with a seat in Congress?

Accountability matters.

UNTHINKABLE: A 12-year-old Georgia girl, Jada West, died from injuries sustained in a fight with a school bully near her bus stop.

Police say the fight happened shortly after students got off the school bus. Jada was reportedly knocked to the ground, got back up, then collapsed again as she tried to walk away.

She was rushed to the hospital with severe brain trauma and later passed away in the ICU. Her family says she had been dealing with bullying for months.

- The staff-to-student ratio is one-to-one, but there's not a single student that can read
- There are over 100 public schools in the state of Illinois that reportedly have zero students proficient in reading or math
- There are 20 public schools in Chicago that are basically empty
