What does that have to do with anything? I’m not challenging that passkeys are possible to implement. 98% of passkeys logins succeed - sure, but all passkeys logins are a tiny fraction of all logins.

I’m not saying passkeys are bad from purely tech pov. I’m saying that they will not take off. If passkeys were invented initially instead of login and password, they might have become the standard. But today - nah.

literally does mate. nobody knows or wants to know what passkeys are and how they work. i can tell you from experience i've seen time after time - a service with passkey only auth just doesn't get new users; if they have login-password AND passkey, there's like 0.1% of passkey users. half of those did passkey by accident.

I liked that. It at least gave an illusion of privacy, and that kept Skype apart from all the other messengers. When Microsoft added central servers was when Skype became just another messenger, and it was significantly worse than the competition. Plus they royally fucked up the transition and everyone who was not in the US timezones had serious issues with ordering of messages.
