14 years ago today, #WizKhalifa dropped #TaylorAllderdice on DatPiff.
The anticipation was so real that even Wiz himself was online waiting for it to go live like everyone else. The tape, named after his high school in Pittsburgh, arrived at a time when Wiz was already blowing up after Kush & Orange Juice, but this project showed a more polished and reflective side of his sound.
The mixtape featured standouts like “California,” “Mary 3X,” and “Never Been Part II,” and included appearances from artists like Juicy J, Rick Ross, and Cam’ron. It quickly spread across the internet and became one of the most talked about mixtapes of 2012, helping solidify the Taylor Gang movement that had been building since the blog era.
This photo captures a perfect moment from that day….Wiz sitting at his laptop, smoking, refreshing the page just like the fans waiting for the tape to drop on DatPiff.
It’s a snapshot of what the mixtape era really felt like.
When Wiz Khalifa dropped Kush & Orange Juice in 2010, it wasn’t just a mixtape, it was basically an internet movement.
There was almost no traditional promotion behind it.
Instead, Wiz built the entire rollout on Twitter and DatPiff, telling fans to download it and light one up at the same time when it dropped.
What happened next was wild.
College campuses all over the country started organizing “Kush & OJ smoke sessions.”
Within hours the tape was everywhere, and it eventually became one of the most downloaded mixtapes in DatPiff history.
That project didn’t just blow Wiz up…
It turned Taylor Gang into a real movement overnight.
