As expected, the Toyota GR GT3 will be operate by 4 teams for 2027: Akkodis ASP (WEC), Vasser Sullivan (IMSA), KCMG (NLS) & Rookie Racing (Super GT).
From Sportscar365’s Jamie Klein, the GR GT3 in the process of homologated. Outside those 4 teams, the new GT3 car will be available to others by 2028 onwards.
There’s also a possibility the debut of the GR GT3 could take place with Super GT & Super Taikyu, as NLS final round deemed unlikely. Not a big shock if Rookie Racing as the first team to debut the car & could lean towards the Super GT, as the team already expanded to GT300 this year as an anticipation for the new GR GT3 & the Mercedes AMG GT3 Evo car they have is a placeholder.
If the car arrives for either Sugo, Autopolis or Motegi, I guess they will focus more on gathering data for expand for other teams who runs the car. Hiroaki Ishiura is the GR GT3 development driver & already tested plenty of times, so his experience will be important. Same with Edoardo Liberati & Jesse Krohn with KCMG, Jack Hawksworth already drive the car recently.
As stated before, other teams can acquire the GR GT3 in 2028, with K-tunes, Shade Racing are interested to replace to the new Toyota car after run the company’s (Lexus) RC F GT3. While TOM’S interest to have an example.
