As a child experiencing abuse, when I read Maya Angelou’s “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings,” I knew for the first time that I was not alone in the world. So when we say “books save lives,” we mean it.
That’s why I was so proud to introduce the Books Save Lives Act of 2026 — my bill to confront the rise of book bans in America, promote inclusive literature, and protect our freedom to read.
This fight is about honoring the brilliance of Black and queer authors, educators, students, and librarians—and it’s a fight for education, democracy, and justice.
Because from bans on our bodies to bans on our books, Trump and Republicans are stopping at nothing to rip away our fundamental freedoms, censor Black, queer and other marginalized authors, and deny us the right to learn and see ourselves reflected in our literature.
Thank you to my colleagues and movement partners for your partnership on this legislation.
Congress must pass our bill without delay.
I just had to say this to get it off my chest.
To everybody who has been attacking Susan Dell, a 62 year-old mother of four who just donated billions of dollars to help young American families, f—k off.
You are no better than Donald Trump, who constantly attacks women for no reason other than the fact that they’re against him politically.
BREAKING: President Trump confirms Katie Zacharia will be the next White House press secretary, replacing Karoline Leavitt.
"It is my Great Honor to have just appointed, as Press Secretary, Katie Zacharia," Trump wrote on Truth Social, praising her as a longtime supporter of his administration and the MAGA movement.
Zacharia currently serves as a senior communications advisor to Trump Media & Technology Group and previously worked as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security.
The announcement follows Leavitt's departure in late August, with the White House holding just two formal press briefings since she left.
42 years ago, I started @Dell with $1,000 in my dorm room. Today, I’m deeply honored to receive the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. 🇺🇸
Thank you @POTUS. This honor belongs to the incredible teams, partners and customers who made it possible.
The best is yet to come.
Keep building 🚀
SECRETARY RUBIO: “Nationalism” became a dirty word. So we tore down our monuments, we condemned our own history, and in too many places we taught our children to be ashamed of the countries they would inherit. In the process we opened our borders, and outsourced our industry, and allowed our militaries to wither and to decay.
